im taking my EGR valve off. But its caked with rust. Im trying to take this line off but its starting to strip and now im questioning if im turning it the right way or not

clockwise or counterclockwise to take off?

If you are sitting where you are when you took that picture, put the big wrench on and then the handle end goes up and/or away from you towards driver side to loosen. Down or towards you / passenger side to tighten.

When nut is stuck there's nothing wrong with turning it a few degrees tight or loose as you try to break it free. If it's moving already then you can likely turn it straight off but if it feels crunchy there's nothing wrong with back tracking a bit every now and then as you remove it to try to help clear the threads a little and avoid galling/damage.
