Edit: I just went and looked at it more carefully. The white cam on the right side of the odometer wheels has a 180 degree lobe, which operates a microswitch. So the microswitch is either open or closed depending on the cam. The slide-switch is in a 3-way configuration with the cam-operated switch. Pretty simple. I think it's safe to assume that the cam represents 50,000 miles, while the lobe represents 25,000 miles. :D

So, with that said, just sliding the switch over to the other side will some what "reset" for the next 25k miles?
 
Not somewhat. It will open the light circuit until the cam changes the microswitch setting after the next 25,000. :)Just like the 3-way switches at either end of a hallway in your house.
