Report back - I'm a few weeks away from getting time to bring in.
My initial impression was that lag is gone but then I realized that transmission learning was also reset and it was low gearing and torque converter engaging all around town. As a result my mpg dropped to 13 (city only). After few days it's relearning again my slow pace of acceleration and lag is still there but may be a bit less then before update. Mpg improving. I definitely not as secure merging into traffic from side street unlike in my lc200 where response is linear and predictable. In lx600 engaging turbos mid turn is scary as s***

I noticed a little less unintentional throttle variance (shutter) at gear changes. It didnt feel like its rolling on tires with flat spots (unintended throttle variance) when taking off after a cold start.

It actually gave me the beans when merging through several lanes into the left fast lane without having excess mental input/considerations. Although its still not “there” 100%, its not dangerous or distracting.

The stop and go shift lag isn’t as dramatic but still there. They need to eliminate the second gear start it FORCES unless temps are below freezing or whatever. At least learn my driving style.

Gear and throttle response is mildly crisper. But I will hold my final judgment until it does a complete relearn.

I kinda feel they have tuned these with a trans safe tune. Like what Ford does with their derated cab and chassis and base fleet work trucks.

It still has that weird kick and sputter thing when accelerating mildly. I don’t know if that is suspension or the torsen center diff though, feels programming related. Put about 110 miles on it city, highway, rural, offroad.

But its crisper. Yall should get it done. They are almost there. Don’t understand how some hillbillies can tune my Ford work trucks and Lexus cant tune these.

Also the warning for the seatbelt may have changed? I drove quite a distance, but off road, and it didn’t turn on until 8-9mph.

Gratuitous off road and activity pics. Spared the ES350 loaner.

Got this done last week… I can’t really tell the difference

It got rid of the delay downshift deadspot and bump at rolling or fast stops. Maybe 75%.

Little more pep too. Still feels lazy and sputters at gear shifts often. They are programming around an under rated part or have a monkey tuning them.

Put a few hundred miles on it.

Come on Toyota, get your s*** together.

Got it done today, haven’t driven it very much but I don’t feel any difference yet.

Got it reprogrammed about a week ago. The power difference is significant. Used to feel like it was backing off power in the upper rpms. Now it’s the opposite, it just pulls and pulls from 4k on.

I had it in sport plus yesterday and it DEFINITELY felt different. Like you said, mid to upper RPMs at full acceleration felt better and stronger, pulled harder.

Played around with it more today, it definitely feels more spirited and responsive. Definitely feel the pulling difference, even at the lower RPMS. I typically don’t drive aggressive, but I did beat it up a little today…😏

Well dang the delayed downshift at start acceleration came back today. Only thing different I have done is switch it between comfort and normal more often over the last few days. Its in normal right now.

Hopefully its just a fluke.

Had mine done yesterday. My observations:

- It drives 10x better than before. We had a 2022 that had always felt much more powerful. Over the last 6 months I told my wife several times that the truck feels terrible and was on the verge of throwing my hands up and dumping the 2024. That being said.....the acceleration is much snappier. The take off from a stop feels very linear. In the past I bitched about it making so much noise then going nowhere. It felt underpowered. That's gone and the truck feels great (like our 2022).

- Low speed transmission down shifts still aren't great when you go off brake to the gas pedal. That's likely trans mapping issues.

- Mid range RPMs feel like it pulls harder

- MPG - my normal route I take I ALWAYS get 17.5 MPG no matter how much I baby it. After the reprogram I was getting 21.5 MPG. It's also extremely cold here. I imagine that I will get better once it warms up. In my 2022 I always get 22mpg on this stretch, but assumed that the 24' was not broken in yet. We traded the 2022 at 24k miles. Our 24 just hit 10k miles and 3 oil changes.

Here's my rub.

Lexus quality is questionable at best. I am conflicted - either Lexus is incompetent when they shipped these cars out detuned or they did it on purpose while they figured out the engines exploding. Either way it's not sitting well. My bet is in the second camp. I hope that there is a class action lawsuit. We put on over 10k miles with a vehicle that was not as advertised. After dealing with a 2022 with the engine recall, Lexus still not delivering a 100k car with all the keys, and now a detuned engine I'm questioning if our next purchase will be a Lexus.

Yeah I second that. Not super happy with the driveability, the transmission tuning is the worst out of any car/truck I have owned.

The reflash was an improvement so they need to keep working on it.

I have zero faith that toyota will push a software fix when to comes to transmission jerky"ness... Toyota will only put effort in fixing something only when there is a significant reliability / safety implications at stake. Other "nice to have" quick fixes are only done when there is a facelift as it's probably much cheaper to optimise at production level. Hence, the way that Toyota doesn't things these days are not agile and one day it will bite them really hard if they don't change... Toyota's "ego" and ageing leadership is a big blocker

Agree. Even after ecu upgrade turbo v6 in f expedition drives better in the citi. They really screwed low rpm torque. I really don't like spinning it to 2-3k like cheap civic muffler at traffic lights

Thats the turbos though. That doesn’t bother me. Its the dead pedal, rpm variations at shifts, and sloppy transmission tuning that will drive a guy nuts.

I'd be willing to bet the hybrid variant solves most of these issues.......I don't understand why the Sequoia was hybrid before the LX. I have not personally driven the Sequoia, but have put hundreds of miles on a RX500H. The hybrid blends very nicely with the turbos. EV like acceleration off the line until the gas engine hits. It's a really nice combo.

Here is the latest from Lexus. I’ll cross post this on ClubLexus and Ih8mud.

  • Lexus is acutely aware of the delayed throttle response at yield, rolling stop etc. They are holding diagnostic conference calls with their master diagnostic technicians regularly. This issue not only affects LX but also GX which helps as there are far more GXs in operation (enough cases came in to get it on the radar)
  • While the vehicle is performing as designed, they understand that they are disappointing their customers and are actively working on a fix.
  • No timing yet on the fix but there will be a fix.
  • Some customers report that the re-learn on the transmission fixes the issue albeit temporarily. For those that are interested, you can reset your transmission by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. Not a Lexus recommendation but just info for those interested in doing it.
  • Some customers have installed a Tom’s throttle controller. My connection says that this is a reputable company and it is highly unlikely that any issues would be created by using such an item.
Once I hear of an approved solution, I’ll re-post.

Thats awesome!! Good job Toyota.

Hope they also fix the jittery rpm at gear changes and rough downshifts when coasting.

Just get it more intuitive and snappy…

I definitely want to hang onto the 600, I do not want the hybrid.
