Hey there. I'm a new owner of an 88 fj62. She is in pretty decent condition has 151k engine runs pretty strong with good compression. Transmission shifts good as well. Interior is near perfect other than earthquake size cracks on the dash from spending years in Arizona and Nevada(found a new oem dash for cheappp pounced on it prob install this winter). exterior paint is a nice deep blue hood and doors were repainted years ago. Hopefully the engine and trans will hold up for next five years or more, I don't plan on daily driving it, just nice weekends in town some camping and light trailing every now and then. my question is I wanna spend some time and money on some mechanical maintainence get my hands dirty. I've already replaced almost all exterior old faded weathers parts. What's the first thing I should do I've only had it a month. All I know the previous owner has done service the trans flush and refill fluids and set the timing on the valves. I'm not terribly mechanically inclined lol I've changed oil tires batteries and easy cosmetic things on cars before that's about it. I hope I'm not in over my head I really wanna learn though and I've had a thing for fjs for a time now so I bought one on a whim really. So what are some easy replacements or improvements I can make to assure a long life out of my fj? Ignition spark plugs, wires? Pcv valve? New filters or hoses? And maybe something more difficult I could have a mechanic do for a few hundred idk I need help I wanna get involved and learn about my fj any help would be appreciated.

Best thing to start with is to grab the FSMs from the links in my sig line. From there you should baseline all the fluids yourself if you have not already had it done just to get used to the truck.
Usually the first "right of passage" maintenance item for most of us is rebuilding the front knuckles. This is a fairly simple job but entails lots of time and getting dirty.

So to answer your question, baseline everything; oil change, new plugs, wire, cap, rotor, change all fluids including the diffs. From there drive her to see what if anything needs attention.

And check Rockauto.com for things like Denso plug wires, air and oil filters, NGK plugs, etc. before paying dealer prices. But, try to use only Denso or dealer stuff, for max reliability.
