Curious, when comparing Inyo’s fire restrictions to other national forests, I have always taken it that propane fires are not allowed. All other forests explicitly state they are.
In stage 1 you can use a propane fire pit along with coleman stoves and jet boil type devices. When Stage 2 is in place there are no flames allowed, that means no smoking cigs either.

Hopefully that answers your question.

So Inyo states this:
"Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit are not exempt from the prohibitions contained in this Order. Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit, however, may use a portable stove or lantern using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel.

While Tahoe and many other forests state this:
"Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit are not exempt from the prohibitions listed above. However, persons with a valid California Campfire Permit may use a portable campfire ring/pit, stove, or lantern in an area at least three feet from any flammable materials provided that the portable campfire ring/pit, stove, or lantern only burns gas, kerosene, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel, with a shut-off valve."

I find it odd that Inyo, at least the last couple years, has been different than the other forests when it comes to propane fire pits. All other forests explicitly state you can use them, Inyo doesn't.

edited to add:

By no means am i saying no fires, I have just always wondered this and figured it was somewhat relevant to the discussion.

Welcome to working for the federal government! :hillbilly:

I've asked several times why can't we just spell it out in simple terms. The lawyers in SF review all orders and depending on the lawyer you get, they can make things a PITA.
If you really want to get confused look at the Park Service orders, those are pretty much in Latin to me. I will forward your suggestion up to the Forest Supervisor (I'm the executive assistant to her ;) )

In keeping with the simplification theme does an EA equate to Boy Toy? Asking for a friend of course.

Thanks for the clarification, I have skipped trips to the area as recently as this passed 4th of July because of the belief that propane fires weren't allowed.

I'm probably not going to make this one, I just can't take the days off work. You guys have a great time.

Will do, we will post pics, web wheeling beats no wheeling.

A couple of good sites for weather up on the plateau.

Looks like favorable weather. In the past we had triple digits heading into Bishop but it looks like we will have high 80's which is much nicer on the trucks. At the plateau, one site is 50's to 70's, another is 40's to 60's, experience says it usually falls between the two. There is a 20% chance of showers Sunday and Monday. Too bad we couldn't get some showers earlier, keeps the dust down.

Bummer for me. We are finishing up a home remodel that won't be done in time, So I wont be making it this year.

You will be missed!

Weather from an Ambient Weather station in Aspendell... https://ambientweather.net/dashboard/e8bb0c6f2f8128a46288c9ae7348aaaa/graphs
Mid 70's by day and low 50's at night. If you extend the date range on the graph you can see one night in the last week where it got into the low 40's at night...

That's just about perfect weather up there. I can't wait, need my Plateau time.

Trips get trucks fixed. Anyone else taking care of those last details? I got my inverter installed and interior buttoned up last night.
