Early heater fitting question

i am currently overhauling the cooling system on the swb. I was never quite sure that the fittings that were screwed into the early water pump were correct. I have a few sets where the shutoff valve is at the water pump, while others were on the head, with just a hose barb at the water pump.

For those that are NOT running a 67+ water pump, can you show what you've got for fittings at the w.p.

Mark, Don't know which heater you have, but here is your answer on either factory heaters for a 1965 FJ 45

Clam shell heater P/N 87100-60020 has a shut-off on the lower radiator hose and also the head, with a drain petcock on the heater hose, from the lower radiator hose shut-off.

Heater with blower on the engine side of the firewall P/N 87200-60060 has a shut-off on the water pump and also the head, with a drain petcock on the firewall side from the heater hose coming from the head shut-off.

Wow, those pics are WILD John! I've come across a couple of those draincocks before, but always assumed they were some kind of add-on. Never knew. While I'm sure I could dig one up for the resto, I'm not sure I want to. Just seems like a liability.

I find it even more intriguing that the M/F elbow at the W/P is stock. I would have bet coin it wasn't. I'm gonna have to think about this.

What did you put on yours?

On my 60/25 no heater They were an option and I have never found one to put on it.
63/40 77/40 heater
64/45 78/40 heater
69/40 76/40 heater
70/40 76/40 heater

Here is an early F engine taking up space, water pump just like yours, but I forgot to look on the back of the head for the other shut off valve. Who would have thunk they would have user a 45 deg street elbow?

Thanks for the pic John. It's a little surprising that no one else on here has anything to share. I did a little poking around at the shop this afternoon and found one of my NOS early water pumps with a shiny gold zinc fitting on it. Apparantly Toyota sold the pump with the primary fitting. But from there, anybody's guess whether they went straight to the valve or used the 90degree street elbow.

pardion I am interested in the cast iron thermostat assembly in your pic above #5. presume this a GM assembly that fits? and prob still available? seem to remember finding something similar on an F years ago. perhaps a good solution seeing as the original assemblies are NLA. thermostats and waterpumps are a weak link in my hot climes.

Yes this one also had a shut off valve on the back of the head.

I took that housing and did find GMC part numbers on it. Flange bolted right up to the block, and I did not see any modifications. Top housing came off easily, 3/8" bolts.

...and to west aussie, there are still plenty of OE housings around. I pulled these together in just a couple of minutes of scrounging.

Really late to the game but I’ll add these pics just for future reference seekers. Two valve setup, the wp valve is very creative. Engine not original to my ‘63 FJ45 but has engine block number F193342 (vin tag engine block number is 175782). I cant imagine what a pain in the a$$ it’s going to be to remove and/replace these valves.
