After restoring steering wheels for a while, people have asked about new Toyota emblems, a friend of mine has figured out a way to repair them, here are some before and after pics of ones he did for me. I had him do some with minor scratches and some that were completely crazed, the outcome was amazing (see pics) Contact me if interested.

FYI and I will post pix of my steering wheel but Birdhead (otherwise known as Jim) does EXCELLENT work on refurbishing steering wheels. I sent mine to him--it had more cracks than you can imagine--Jim got it back to like new condition and also got my horn internals put together (I was missing parts and had broken parts). Anyway, kudos to Jim. Martin

Thank you, I appreciate that.

Excellent job. Nice to know there is a fix action for tired horn buttons.

Care to make a how-to thread? I'm sure others (besides myself) would be interested in knowing how you restore them
I don’t know how he does it, you know how I’ve messed with these to come up with a solution. I paid to have mine done and he kept the process close to the vest. I just know him from talking on the phone and he’s in another state and I shipped him mine, so I havent seen it done, just the results. He does good work and I didn’t push him on his process. I’ve sanded, polished, heated etc and couldn’t get it right. He does. Just passing on another option for FJ owners.

Got it. You said friend so I assumed you mean it friend in RL.

I imagine it involves new resin (either poured on or set face down in a mold) and a lot of polishing/sanding. Very cool

I have watched a ton of YouTube videos on repairing acrylic and other materials, nothing close. I’ll keep practicing on spare emblems, maybe there is someone in the industry who could give some pointers?

what's up with the thick rim around the restored ones? do they still fit in the steel housing? is that rim added material or did he remove it?
Yeah it still fits in the ring, I didn’t notice it until you pointed it out. It kind of looks like added material. Every time I have tried adding anything, it just magnified the cracks.

Just received another one, pic so you can see it in the ring.

I’ll take a pic of it installed with the gasket in and in the complete horn button when I finish the rest of the horn and also weigh it.
