I kind of used up my last get out of jail free cards with the last fender bender from last year, when a cyclist decided step into moving traffic coming around a corner at night in the rain. I think I am going to give up on the idea of getting a newer HDJ81 and use the money I was going to spend on that purchase to fund the Aqualu conversion. I got turned onto the newer coil front 75 series pick-ups I saw in Malaysia and the performance and economy from a stock 3.0L D4D Hilux that would be a great combo, power is on par with a 1HD-t, add in some performance upgrades that engine has available and that thing would be a rocket. Some of the other manufactuers are pulling a lot more power from smaller displacements stock. Even the 2.5L common rail Hilux that was loaned to us had only been chipped and that performed very well up steep twisty speed robbing hills. We got stuck a few time behind snail pace cars struggling to move up the mountain, when it was safe to do so we passed them and it picked up were it left off with not too much struggle. In the 2.5 we turned the A/C off on some steeper hill climbs once in a while when we got stuck behind other cars. John's brother's stock 3.0L D4D Hilux did it eaiser and that's with the A/C blasting the whole trip and it still got great mileage!? I don't remember seeing any smoke either.
