Maybe someone has mentioned this already but...you should talk to your insurance co.(not your agent) - they should be on your side and might have some ideas of other money you have coming. I think the 20% buyback is standard as that's what places like co-part will give them for anything that is totaled.

My insurance company can't help me. They will cover it under comprehensive, but since I wasn't at accident and there isn't a question of fault, they can't fight on my behalf. If they end up covering it, they'll give me a lot less, since it's a comprehensive claim and my deductible will apply.

You also saved them a ton of storage charges by picking it up from the tow yard.

I heard of people telling the insurance company they had to find them a like vehicle. That was when I was looking at a car at a dealership and they let me test drive it, but not buy it at that time, because an insurance company was maybe going to buy it to replace a customer's totaled vehicle.

There are not too many FJ 45 pickups that you could go out and buy for $15,000, much less $11,856. The law states that you have to be made whole, not partially whole. Remind them of that.

Another twist is that, my car was insured as cargo. So, it's only value is not what it's value was as a car, but what I paid for it. But, then, they want to value the carcass as a car. It makes no sense. But, because it was commercial, nothing about it is normal.

Well, I am sure glad you had some kind of insurance. It must be really painful looking at it in it's current condition.

So, today is the final chapter for Dumpie for me. I cut a deal with Progressive and @whitey45 is picking her up today and taking her back home.

Thanks to everyone for your support and advice the last month through this strange process. Everyone on MUD has been a huge help to me.

Good to know it's staying in 'mud. Sorry you had to go through all this though.

So @whitey45 you going to put the dump bed back on?

I am not going with another 45. I'm going to do some work on the 40 - hydro assist is going on now, and I'm going to link it over the winter and stretch the wheel base and move to 40's or thereabouts.

Man that sucks about the pay out from the insurance I wish I would have seen this earlier. Not that I would have bought it but I have experience with insurance and all their BS as I have a cruiser stolen never recovered and they offered me 6K for it. I said that they lost their d@mn minds. My motor swap cost me over that alone. Long story short it took a while but eventually i was paid 19K but took almost 2 yrs of me refusing their lame offers every month or two. Anyway good luck on your 40 and the 45 will likely live again...
