There are TONS of strip joints in Dallas.

*if you do come through this way, stop by and I'll take you out for the best Mexican food you'll ever eat in your entire life. Promise.

Where is this so called Mexican Food resturant located in Dallas?

I liked Razzoos near Lewisville,, they have thoes stuffed jalapenoes (RAT TOES),,, their awsome!!!

Go to cimarron NM...there is the world's largest suspension bridge there...it is unreal how far a drop it is. Plus it is just a beautiful ride thru there....good luck

It's not in Dallas, it's in Fort Worth.

Razzoos is okay for chain food...haven't been to one in years though.

Do the Grand Canyon, but don't spend too much time there -- unless you're doing a boat trip or a donkey ride to the canyon floor. The thing is great, but it's so huge that (at least for me) the 3 or 4 stops we made...it all pretty much looked the same. I'd like to ride down to the bottom or take one of those raft/boat trips through it though.

From the GC, I'd stop in Santa Fe. Really cool town. A must see, IMO. On the way there, stop by CDan's place in ABQ -- you'll be driving right past there.

From Santa Fe, I'd head over to Amarillo and try to tackle that HUGE steak thing that they have there -- the one where if you can eat the thing in an hour, it's free? I'd like to check that one off my list.

From Amarillo, make your way down to the DFW area and stop by and say "Hi" to Swank. Eat some mexi-grub and try to decide if you want to go to Memphis or New Orleans next. If you happen to choose Memphis, ask the locals which BBQ places they like (or read my post in the BBQ section) and do stop by and visit Graceland. DO NOT make a special trip to Memphis just for Graceland...you'd be disappointed, but if you're there anyhow...stop by. If you do go there, please pick up a "TCB" key ring for me...the one I picked up from there is starting to show quite a bit of wear.

If you hit New Orleans, have a freakin' blast.

From either Memphis, or New Orleans, I would make my way east to Savannah. I've never been, but have read quite a bit about it. I'd love to visit sometime. Not much else in GA...'cept a tard with a Dixie horn on his 80...so...you'd make your way north back home along the coast...

That's my suggestion.

Best advice I have seen posted yet. I have made similar trips about 4 or 5 times now just to the SE instead of NE.
I will list severl things I have been to. I will try to list these in order from AZ back toward the east.

1. Grand Canyon and Painted desert

2. Indian reservations in AZ/NM We stayed in Gallup one time Cool place to stay that was cheap 3 yrs ago (We got the Ronald Regan Pres Suite for $85 a night! And it had a bidet (sp?) and royal blue bath room that had a recliner in it!jaccuzi, walk in closet bigger than mine at home. Anyway it was really cool! http://www.elranchohotel.com/

3. Santa Fe / ALQ lots of stuff either place to see or you could go south to carlsbad caverns or white sands nat mon. Or roswell, NM, lots of really random stuff there :)

4. Tucumcari, NM (really cool little town that is set up like the old route 66. Especially at night, all the neon signs. We stayed in one of the hotels here 3 yrs ago on our honeymoon and our room had a single car garage included. Also most of the hotels are preatty cheap. http://www.tucumcarinm.com/

5. Amarillo, TX
Big Texan is the name of the 72 oz. steak place. Umm you can try it but i am almost certain you cant do it. When we went in they had one on display, it was HUGE!! I ended up getting something like the 16oz Chicken breast! And I was more than full, it was more experience. Got picture taken and bought a shirt :) http://www.bigtexan.com
Cadillac Ranch is close to here right off of I-40/rt 66 Stop take some pics just to say you have been there.

6. Oklahoma, basically Stilwater is a cool town we stayed in a B&B there and it was really nice. If you want the info on it let me know and I will try to dig it up, the wife is great with facts such as those. Also if you make it to Stillwater go to Eskimo Joes cool college hang out place! Good burgers too!! http://www.eskimojoes.com/

7. Arkansas not much there. always seems to have road construction through there on I-40. We did take a little side trip up toward I think it was hot springs and saw some preatty mountain views and areas.

8. Memphis-
Yay or Ney on Graceland - Its mostly hoopla, but it is one place I would go once just to say I went. Saying that, when we came through on the honeymoon we went to the gate and took some pics. Last time I went I think I was like 7.
BBQ - I have been to Corky's 2 times (1 on HM, other in 2004) I like it alot!! I got the ribs 1/2 wet 1/2 dry. There are several diff ones in memphis I think then one I went to was the original one? http://www.corkysbbq.com/

9. If you head north from there you can kit the kentucky derby place I think its Dover Downs? I dont remeber been like 7 yrs since I have been there. Also I n KY the original KFC is there. Its worth a trip just to say you have been there.

I hopt this helps some and not too overwhelming. I love the area out there! If you have more time you want to use I have more things I know of that are cool, but they are farther off of the main road. We usually go out one way (I-40/Rt 66) then come back another ( South through heart of TX and on gulf coast). Big Bend is in the south western corner of TX and is beautiful and has a good many places to use 4x4 really rural and hot. But oh so beautiful!! here is a little info on it http://www.big.bend.national-park.com/

Again feel free to email or PM me if yo uneed any help or ideas or if something is worth the costs etc. (We did our Honeymoon in July 2002, it was a road trip out west. We spent 2.5 wks out and spent under $2500, including spending $!) But gas was only about $1.50 and up then. :(

New Orleans was mentioned, I think its one of those places to go and say you have been there. I doubt I will ever go back, it was just so dirty, but alot of people like it alot down there.

I do have one bit of advice on the truck though: take it easy. I've found that with a 60, you kind of have to adapt your driving style to what it wants (which basically means it's slow, and you can't push it). Get a AAA membership before you head out!

Skip going South. From AZ head north through Utah then East through Colorado. Much better scenery and camping. Plus if you time it right, the great American Beer Festival is happening in September in Denver.
mmmmm....beeeer....

Razzoos has thoes spicey RAT TOES stuffed with crab meat and stuffing freaking great!!!! I don't care much about chain food either my greatest freind in the world lives in Euless and we would go their for their specials on beer.

PS: I love the fish on the hook, I like the darwin one humping the other... LOL

When you drive up the 17 a cool place to stop is Montezuma Castle. And I would spend some time in southern Utah if you haven't before. At least do Lake Powell and Natural Bridges.

And why not take a little detour to Vegas. I here the camping is great at the Bellagio. Plus they have a kick ass sea food buffet.

Damn, just got back. 15 days without internet access made me nuts.

Thanks for all the great ideas and the offers to wheel/eat/drink!

Heading to AAA tomorrow morning to load up on brochures and such.

Thinking of swinging through Moab too to check it out. Have never been.

After I stop at the Mexican place with Swank, gas shouldn't be a problem. :D
