Does anyone know if the driveshaft flanges are compatible between a newer Toy truck and a 73 FJ40? I need to shorten one and lengthen the other, but the slips yokes (almost put 'yolks' in there) are worn out, along with the u-joints. I can't afford new driveshafts, but I'm hoping it's cheaper to modify newer used units as long as the flanges mate up to the diffs etc. Can anyone confirm this, or am I out to lunch, as usual.

Check out the flange diagrams on Cruiser Outfitters website @cruiseroutfit . I know the bolt size and pattern changed with the change from the 3 speed transmission to the 4 speed transmission in '74 US models (after both of my 10/73's were made). They carry flanges with both patterns predrilled our you could redrill your existing flanges...

It is easier... and therefore usually significantly cheaper to shorten driveshafts than have them lengthened.
