Hey, all!

I just sold my 80’s series last December and bought a 100 series.

The driver’s side heated seat doesn’t function. (It was like this when I bought it).

My Land Cruiser guy said that the repair would be $950 as he’d have to take the seat apart and wire-in a universal heating element—as Toyota doesn’t make the OEM heating elements anymore.

This is a sticker shock for sure!

Is there any cheaper way of fixing this do you guys think?

I am not handy at all. So I’d have either my LC guy or Land Cruiser NW here in Portland do the work. I don’t know if the problem is the actual heating element OR if it’s the wiring to the switch that’s gone bad.

Recommendations and input would be appreciated. Cheers, all!

does the switch light when either hi or lo?
has it been checked power is getting to the plug under the seat?
are you sure it is the element?
good used is a possibility

You do have to take apart the seat bottom to replace the element. Some have used aftermarket units and wired them into the factory wiring without issue. Look into the threads about reupholstery for some more details.

But like @3_puppies said, verify it is actually the element first.

As someone suggested, first make sure it's not a wiring, switch issue. If it's not and it is in fact the heating element, shop around as that seems a little high. A lot of car audio shops install aftermarket heated seats, maybe call a few of them.
