Driver side wheel hub

Hello fellow Cruiser lovers,
A few weeks ago I had to replace the alternator in my wife LX470, so naturally the 80 Cruiser had to be used to supplement our driving needs for a week while we waited on the alternator.
A couple days after parking the Cruiser back in its covered home I noticed this big oil spot under and inside the tire. Seems like there is a seal that has gone out in the wheel hub. I have never replaced items in the wheel hubs/knuckles and so am unfamiliar with the anatomy in there.
Any of you folks have an idea of what needs repaired?

Time for a knuckle rebuild, order up the rebuild kit from @cruiseroutfit and watch a few videos on you tube.

For the OP, as mentioned by FJ80Oregon above, search you tubes for "FZJ80 Front Axle Service/rebuild" or "Land Cruiser Solid axle rebuild". Watch a few of them as they all approach the job somewhat differently, little tips and tricks.

For a newbie IMHO a video put together by a mechanic (2nd Gear Low) in Australia "FZJ80 Swivel Hub Rebuild" is one of the easiest to follow. You still need the Factory Service Manual (download from the Resources section top of page) and the sheet above is useful. Might help to also start a thread on this forum if you have any questions as you go.

The whole process may appear daunting at first but if you (mentally) look at the whole job as a series of small jobs done twice (each side) makes it easier to get started. Helps also to have a place to work out of the weather if possible ie: you could back it into the parking spot shown in the photo above.

Small detail, just in case, be sure to have enough space on each side to remove the axle shafts. Keep in mind that the driver side is longer.
