As I’m new to these rigs, I don’t know what’s “normal” regarding lash.
When shifting between drive and reverse there is noticeable clunk. During normal driving, there is no noticeable clunk. On throttle, off throttle- nothing. Seems normal.

I have some records from previous owner, but no mention of any driveline work. The T-case appears to have been worked on - RTV on the mating surfaces.

There was some slop in both drive shafts - u joint wear and some surprising slip joint wear - so I replaced both with OEM parts. (Surprisingly affordable). I don’t think PO knew there were zirk fittings on the slip joints.

So- what say the forum elders on this topic?

Do a search and you will find a lot about this topic on the forum. CV spline/drive flange wear is another common culprit but some people put a lot of calories into resolution and still have some play. @2001LC has some videos showing how much play he deems excessive.

CV axle/flange spline wear, diff bushings and front diff wear/excessive play were all partly to blame on mine.
