My FSM shows the drive shafts positioned with the slip joints forward.
That’s not how they are attached. I have the slip joints at the T-case.
Which is correct?

Mine are oriented with both slip joints pointing at the transfer case. I’ve never had any issue. But, I’ve also had the front oriented with the slip yoke forward and never had an issue. The front oriented forward does provide more clearance with the sway bar. If it’s not giving you any trouble let it be.

Mine are the way the FSM shows them, and I believe that's correct.

The front driveshaft should be oriented with the slip yoke forward. Otherwise at extreme articulation the DS might come into contact with the swaybar.

Both slip yokes should be to the front of the vehicle, UNLESS you have aftermarket double cardan shafts installed.

Thanks for the input. I turned my front DS so that the yoke is forward. Per the FSM.

I went by the local LandCruiser shop to look things over and between all models of LC’s and Tacos the drive shafts where pointing many different ways. Who would know which way to position your DS? Not sure of the rationale from the FSM is simply to clear the sway bar?
On most the 40’s and 60’s the slip joints were at the TC. There was one Troopy with the slip joints forward. Most of the 80’s had the slip joints forward.

So, I’m not sure if it matters in the long run?

Our truck came that way and I thought nothing of it for most of ten years. Then I discovered it was reversed and had it switched around to correct. Hate to say it, but it was never on a trail where it mattered, but will be a little noisy if you do smack the sway bar with the DS.

The 40 series FSM doesn’t show a specific orientation but the Haynes manual has a diagram that shows the slip joints both at the tcase.

Yes, I agree with you @subzali. So again, is the only reason for the slip point to be forward is to clear the sway bar on the 80?

As said earlier, no discernible difference from running it either way save for sway bar clearance. On my current 80 the slip is at the t case. It would likely rub if not for the sway bar drop blocks.
