Hey guys. My rear window just stopped working this weekend. It has always worked great. I parked the truck last week, started it this weekend and the motor makes a thump when I push the switch like it's trying to go. I pulled the panel and everything seems to be lined up right. I am assuming that this is the dreaded plastic gear failure, but is there any way to tell without disassembling the entire unit? Any help would be much appreciated - the thing worked so well previously, I hate to take it all apart before I've got an educated guess.

Thanks guys,

Stu

Thanks Nuclearlemon and Cruiser guy,

No issues before hand smooth as a bell and strong up and down. Window quit in the up position. So I can see and touch the assembly, but I can't see the condition of the gear from the front. What's my next step?

Cruiser guy, I've seen the post on the brass gears -beautys! What's the price and timeframe? I've got an Upstate Cruisers rally at the end of Feb. that I'd love to get this thing working for.

If the gear is cracked would the motor still spin and make a noise or could it be jammed hence the thump when I push the switch?

The noise sounds like the motor trying to spin when I send power to it through the switch. But it is only one jolt, like it is stuck.

The gear breaks and gets jamed inside the housing. Unfortunately the whole window mechanish has to come out to get to the gear. once it is apart just pull the E clip off and slide the new gear on.

Michael,

Thanks a lot for the pics and info. Helped so much to visualize it before I dismount that assembly. Called Toyota this morning, ordered one - $36.00. Wish I could get the brass one, but so many projects I've got to prioritize the dollars! Guys, thanks again! I'll get this knocked out and then move on to door hinge rebuild! Going to NAPA today to pick up a couple of hinge pin/bushing sets.
