Hey all, I got a 2009 Landcruiser, bought used, came with 2 key fobs but only 1 cut key. The physical cut key won’t unlock the vehicle from the driver door and never has since I’ve had it (the driver door is the only exterior lock that I’m aware of). The key fob opens the vehicle and interior driver side door lock/unlock button always work if the car battery has a charge (not sure if there is a separate passenger lock unlock button). Currently, if the battery dies I have to break into the vehicle with locksmith tools. I have tried spraying locksmith lock lubricant (Houdini 4 way lock lubricant) into the key cylinder and no dice.
I was thinking I should buy a new cut key from VIN as a first step to ensure I have a key that’s definitely for my vehicle (maybe the previous owner gave me a random Toyota key or maybe it’s somehow worn out…but can’t see how it would be worn since it’s not a easy key to try to use since it’s tiny and has nothing to grab onto to help turn it, especially when you have a FOB to use instead).
Read a number of posts for door lock actuator issues, but not sure this is the issue as I’ve read this seems to be the problem when the fob or interior lock button doesn’t work. Do I open up the door to visually inspect before I do anything? Dealer said the lock mechanism is backordered with no idea of when it will come into stock.
The 200 series fob housings are a flawed design and already plan to buy Yota MDs key repair kit once I can get the mechanical issue resolved.
My remote start feature from the key fob stopped working recently, and I have more than 1/4 tank of gas, if you got any tips on what that could be, I’ll take it!
Thank you for your time and advice!
