Hi folks,

2004 100 series, I have to lock it off the key as the alarm randomly decides to go off otherwise, I've not had much time to investigate the alarm issue but I do know that the windscreen etc is all good.

When I insert the key, it's start getting most of the way and then needs me to push harder/wiggle it slightly to get it all the way in (before I turn it to lock).

I was wondering if it it was a sticky tumbler or something in the lock and considered spraying in some dry lube, I thought I'd check here first if anyone has encountered this issue and what the cause/solution was.

Thanks!

You may want to try cleaning first, with a Spray Cleaner and Compressed Air.

Any particular type of cleaner? e.g. household cleaner

Google key lock cleaners.
Or check your local parts store.

I've a can of CRC electric contact cleaner, plastic safe. I've used others spray cleaners also. Stuff that evaporates. Blow out and move key in and out then wipe key, before evaporates. Repeat many times. Once no more grim on key, then lube graphite or some of these newer lubes that dry and will not attract dust.
Tip: Keep a rag around area, to keep cleaners and lubes off body paint.

Many of the key kits have both sprays. If you happen to have a graphite lubricant and an electronics cleaner, that will also do. Make sure not to activate any lock while still wet with cleaning solution, as there are electronics around the tumblers.
