Listen, I'm not trying to kick you while you're down, but didn't you accuse hunters on this board of being "fxxxing bambi killers" in another thread not long ago?

man-thanks for the humor. thanks for reminding me about how gullible some people, including yourself, are. hahahahahahaha. that thread was damned funny. i'm doing a lot better today.

Did your animals act strange post other animal's passing?

Animals know, feel and have HUGE emotional capacities (at least mammals and birds, and in my own observation most reptiles, but perhaps not fish, amphibians, invertebrates, etc.--but I don't know and I am giving them the benefit of the doubt) and when we are honest with ourselves, we know it, hence my politics regarding them.

Yep, they know and feel.

x2 What D'beagle said.

'Lost' my doberboy while I was away at a monthlong training. it's not any easier if you've been gone 2 weeks or if you've given them a 'last best'. Put my dobergirl down in May. Her buddy moped for about 3 weeks. Blue/pink juice or bullet, it's never easy, and there'll be lingering images.

Helped vets w/home e's and friends who've had it done at home: it's all painful. The 'right' k9 will come along and help ease the pain. I thought I'd go it w/solo dog for a year, held out only a few months. Had been window-shopping a rescue, was ready to make it so, and the brother of my current dog needed a new home. Watching them play together is like a tribute to the dobergirl.

my 2c.

Its been about a year and half since I had to put down my dog. I never got over it, and doubt I will. I miss him all the time. I cant bring myself to get another dog. I tell folks that ask that its rather liberating to be free of the fur and having pick up dog poop, but truth is I just dont have it in me to care for another dog that will never measure up to Boca. Please accept my condolences.

Karl

It's never easy anywhere for any reason. Beginning with a pup can be difficult, accidents, training, chewing, etc. The middle of their lives is the best ever. No doubt the end is the worst, a horrible payback for all the time and memories shared. It may seem silly to some but when we put Sydney down I either "grew up" a little more or matured or whatever you want to call it OR I actually lost a part of my life.

Best wishes.

That's something I've never really thought about. A lot of people compare their pets to kids. A big difference is most people don't have to bury their kids. And if you are a lifelong dog owner than you have had to bury too many kids. It's sad in that light. Hell it's sad anyway you look at it. I hear the best prescription is to get a new friend to raise.

Who posted the thread about taking their dog to the hospital in the back of their cruiser and then saying goodbye for the last time at the hospital? That thread got me all teared up also. I don't even have a dog.

I hate these threads. I had to do the deed a few weeks ago and you guys made me feel a lot better about doing it. I did toy with the idea of a bullet to the back of the head (for the dog) but I just couldn't do it. She got the needle and just faded away on the porch. I thought I was a real princess about the sobbing part because I still tear up when I think about her not being here. Glad to see some of you have the same feelings and soft spot for your pets. And just to pour salt on the open sore, they charged me $390. I spread her ashes this weekend.

Sorry for your loss. Just think of the fun times and the bad memories will fade away.

Not to sound completly dumb, but if you chose this way, what is the disposal of choice?

That's a personal choice. You have three options:

1) Take the dog with you (from where it was put down) to bury at a place you choose (with legal limitations).
2) Have the body cremated (by a service the Vet uses) and you'll get it back in ~a week (usually in a brass box).
3) Have vet "dispose of it" which means that the body will typically go into a land fill specifically designated for "biohazards" and other "medical waste". Some municipalities cremate en masse.

There is a 4th and 5th (and 6th) option, but I have never heard of anyone actually doing any of them...

4) Leave the body in the woods to be disposed of as nature would... (surely difficult but the most "natural"). This is really no different than burial at sea.
5) Dismember the animal and feed it to wildlife (the same as #4, but with human assistance)
6) I'm not even gonna type it...

I'm actually glad to know you were joking. Those comments in a truthful context would be pretty unstable.

Good to hear you're doing better.

sorry about your loss x1000....but when the time is right please adopt a stray if possible..there are so many pets who never get the chance to experience a good owner....

No disrespect for Industrial Quality Irreverence, but c'mon, don't turd pile this thread, it was pretty untainted until Noah arrived, broke the d.b. ice, and dragged in the Usual Suspects.

Don't fxxx with a bunch of men in a circle jerk, crying over dead dogs. Bad karma.

This thread is a tough read. I can barely imagine what it's like to go through this. Our Cairn is only 2 and have read about instances where they live to be 20.

I'm glad your doing better today.
