Do I need extended or different bump stops?

I have a 2013 LX570 with a Tundra front suspension conversion, Toyota shock spacers, and AHC with a sensor lift. I'm running 35s. Rear suspension is stock other than a sensor lift and a 1.5" spacer on each side. I've wheeled the truck and don't notice any rubbing (except some very minor scrub when backing up with hard lock to one side) and only a very occasional hard landing when loading the suspension on a large drop.

Do I need or should I have different or extended bump stops? If extended, how far? Is there a specific setup you'd recommend for my situation - Perry Parts, DuroBumps, Timbren AOR, or something else?

Appreciate the help all. This is definitely not my area of expertise so I could benefit from yours. Thanks in advance!

Also, IMO you answered your own questions. If you only occasionally bottom out off road with unusually (to you) large loads, you're probably set up about right. If you it happens regularly then something like any of the mentioned options may help. You don't necessarily need fully extended bump stops to stop travel sooner, just a little help cushioning the landing.
 
I just installed the Timbren bump stops and I think they are designed for this purpose (I did it for towing).
Is your 2016 stock suspension? Just installed Timbren bump stops today on my '21 and the ride is horrible. Believe the axle is sitting right on the bump stops and there's little-to-no suspension travel and is super bouncy....it's awful. Like you, got them for towing to keep the back from sagging so low, but man....this is not a viable solution with stock suspension. Thoughts?

Two major reasons in my mind to upgrade bump stops.

1. Bump limiter - to protect other parts from bottoming out before the bump stops are engaged. Example being tires to fender, tires to windshield washer tank, or shocks bottoming out, etc.

2. Soften g-outs when compression travel is fully used, like high speed desert dips or whoops.

Doesn't sound like you need #1. And #2 doesn't sound like it happens often? AHC does a great job of dynamically managing damping to make the most of compression travel and keep off the stops. If you're not already, you can and should also use sport damping setting as that will bias the shocks for more compression damping to stay off the stops.

If you're regularly running hard and fast and want to add g-out protection, that's the reason to upgrade. I personally prefer durobumps. Not necessarily in the extended version unless you're trying to accomplish #1.

Note that bumps stops are for managing the last bit of compression travel. Counter intuitive, but big rubber bushings do not make for good ride quality if they are engaged too early and often. That's the job of the springs and damper.

Setup right, AHC with quality bumps and large aired down tires can make the suspension feel like it has endless travel.

No, I have OME 2721 springs, Bilstein 4600 shocks, Firestone airbags, and the Timbren bump stops. I'm not riding with axle on bumpstop.

With the stock suspension (17k mile takeoff springs and brand new oem shocks) towing a camper (6500 lb dry, probably closer to 8000 loaded and filled tanks) I was bottoming out hard, like panhard hitting my LRA tank scraping paint off metal.

I spoke to Timbren this morning. I think the solution is to create a gap between the bump stops and axle because I believe the bump stops are touching the axle 100% of the time and not allowing the stock OEM suspension to respond. They're recommending a lowering of 1" to 1.5" and they're going to send some additional components to achieve that gapping. On my '98, I have OME springs to contend with weight of the aux fuel tank, and using the Timbren bump stops work fine, but on my '21 with original suspension, boy are the Timbrens awful, so we'll see how gapping 1.5 inches changes things. Thanks for the response.
