Does anyone have any experience with doing a dizzy recurve? Going to desmog my 60 here soon and will need to recurve it or have it done.

Are you speaking English?

I do enjoy hunting and I have been dipping my toe into bow hunting, but I'll be using a compound bow and not a recurve so I don't think I can help you.

Unless you're talking about the "dizzy izzy." You know, when you run 50 yards, grab a bat and spin around it while bent over with the bat touching your forehead and the ground and then running back. Then yes, I have experience with that. Based on my experience it's more fun and awesomer if done after a few beers. Hope that answered your question.

I have looked into it and would do two things. First you need to make sure that both your main and secondary advance diaphragms work. They are no longer available and really hard to find if yours are not working. This is important because how you recurve will be based on if one or both of those are reliable.

I know that Jim C in Ohio does an awesome job on recurving the dizzys for the 60 series when desmogged and will know how to account for any advance issues that may be present in the system.

When are you looking to do the desmog? I have done three on the 60's and would love to help if I can make the dates work...

I wonder how this sort of thing is done with the DUI performance distributor. My truck has one of those.

Don't you just out your foot on the brake pedal and push that button thingy? 🤷🍿

I will definately let you know ahead of time. I will order the desmog kit here soon and would like to do the desmog somethime mid next month if i had to guess. Depending on the recurve situation and if i can get that handled in time.

Good idea is keep an eye out for a 60 dizzy... Good to have a spare as they are also hard to find when needed... Then you can send one out for recurve and run your other one in the meantime.

I think the electronic distributors like the HEIs automatically advance? Not too sure but I think that's one of the advantages.

I might look into one of these as well as I plan on doing the holly sniper TBI

Looking here, the DIU from Performance Dizzies comes with an advance cal for the application.

Peformance Dizzy

Why the additional step requiring a dizzy and carb rebuild (to do a desmog correctly) if you want to go TBI anyway?

I'd go straight to the Holley TBI swap unless you had a good reason to desmog first. Also, with the desmog, how do you plan on getting emissions exemption?

If you are in the military you can register your vehicle out of state. Also, our military get special privileges when bring a non-CA smog vehicle into the state.

The 60 is registered in GA as that is where my home of record is and where I pay my taxes. Plus no smog helps.

That makes sense. You will have to take out all of the smog crap to put in the TBI anyway. I'll be back and ready to work on the 10th of November. Let's start ripping crap out of that engine bay!

If you end up going to a shop, you're looking for one with a Sun Distributor Machine. I found a machine shop/speed shop in Washington state that did mine on the Chevelle when I had a old school distributor. If going TBI, some of the Holley kits have a computer controlled distributor option, thats what I currently run.

Long term I think the controlled distributer is going to be best long term.

I can attest it's awesome, I can change my timing on the fly with a handheld touch screen (not that I do). You can also log in with your laptop and look at a bunch of different tables and really dial it in. The Holley small cap computer controlled Distributor is like $400, and worth it IMO. I know it works with the Terminator Kit, not sure about the sniper kits
