I started with this guy's thread for inspiration and went with 2x3 for the main tube for a beefier look. I'm also tucking the sides in a bit more. I plan to put a plate across the top with round tube protection for the lights and such. A winch mounting plate will sit below the frame rails. I'll post more photos as it progresses.

Looks good! Where does the winch go?

The winch plate will bolt to the bottom of the frame rails. The bumper brackets will be welded to it. Over all, the winch with attached winch plate will have 8 m10 grade 8 bolts attaching it. I'll put plate across the top too ...eventually

Went wheeling at Hidden Falls (Marble Falls, TX) with my son today. Awesome trip!

However, my bumper 0, tree stump 1.

After fixing it I'm putting a 3/16 plate across the top and adding the skid plates.

Thanks. ....what's with the username and avatar?

I spend a great deal of my time in airplanes and the SkyMall catalogue was always a fun pass-time, until they went out of business a couple years ago. I still kinda want one of those plantar fasciitis socks to wear when I sleep! ;)

I too have plantar fasciitis lol.

Funny, lots of people in my state (also OR, CA, & CO ) have a fasciitis with a particular plant too, they all claim it helps them sleep too! (Or find a craving for Taco Bell)

On a serious note, how did you manage that on a stump? - were you doing a stoutness test, since they rarely just jump out in a trail (well, WA stumps don't, that is).

We were descending North Pole. The bare tree in the left at the start of video snagged under the bumper on the first drop. I had to make 20+ point turn to get angled to descend the second part where the LC in the video nearly flops.

nice go at a diy bumper. what is the wall thickness of the 2x3 main peice?
