Here are some tips on spraying if you guys do decide to go this route.. It is a little cheaper and beleive me I am all about cheap and doing it yourself but again I wouldn't do it again because the long term and even light short term sucks.. But I would ROLL the first coat, so you really get it in there, in the crevices and such especially in high wear areas.. Then I would spray second and maybe third coats..

I also useed the $8 Rock Shutz gun from Harbor Frieght which works awesome.. I duct taped a Gadorade 1- quart jar to it which is killer and holds a lot.. Then you can see the different spray patterns before. I was told to keep it at I think 20-30 PSI which I did at first. You can see in the first pic it is gloppy and not a consistent full coverage spray. You also waste a lot of bedliner like this.. Then, I upped to about 40-50 psi and it shot great. Last photo you can see the comparison.. Hope it helps...

Welp, I ordered the stuff.

1 Gallon of dark grey textured for my flares/rockers/lower doors

and 2 Quarts of smooth white for my roof :D

Hopefully the stuff will be here by next week and I can get to work. I'm definately gonna be rolling the stuff on, so we'll see how it works. I'm especially interested in seeing how the white turns out.

Good luck Arya,
I may be wrong, but it does look like people who roll on multiple coats have a better outcome than those that spray. I could be wrong.

Arya,

I've had no issues with my flares or roof. I've only had it on for a few months. I used the supplied roller and applied two coats.

Best advice - prep, prep and prep the surface. Don't be afraid to really take some harsh sand paper to your roof to get all the clear coat and a good deal of the paint off. Follow up with Xylene to clean the surface per Durabak's instructions. I used a sanding wheel on the portions of the roof I coated where the roof rack used to be. Search for my post on this and you can see how much I really scuffed up the paint on the roof.

I am looking forward to finding out how things go for you. Keep us posted.

just for some info on performance, after a long weekend wheelin' and a lot of mud on the rig, i broke out the pressure washer yesterday. I blasted the mud from under the cruiser and around the areas that were durabaked. The areas that were thin like on the sliders, some of it was blasted off with the spray. But all the areas on the fenders that i applied really thick held up just fine.

UPDATE PLEASE. Still happy?

Based on my 10.25.06 post, I guess it's been a couple of years now for me. Still looks great on flares and roof under the INTI rack.

I Durabak'd the inside and outside of my trailer; the outside was painted with acrylic enamel and the inside was regular unpainted black. The inside shows wear and has tore in a few places, but the painted outside has held up great. I was thinking of doing the inside of my 40, maybe painting it helps with wear??

I have had Durabak on the 40 for over a year now and am still happy with the results. I have had no pealing. I do run the 40 through trees and heavy brush a lot. I think I rolled on 3 coats. I did spray some other brand (rattle gaurd maybe) on the inside 5 years ago. Most of that pealed up within the year. Though my prep work for the inside was not great.
