I'll take any helpful suggestions I can get. Even if they seem obvious.

The pipe is about an inch shorter than the long axle, because I cut it before removing and measuring the long axle . So, I think it's plenty long enough for the short axle. On the long axle, I just held the pipe vertical and above the ground in my left hand and slammed the birf down into the pipe with my right hand and it came out just fine. I didn't need to slam it into the ground. Luckily.
The short axle, I've tried all combinations and I'm slamming that thing like I'm trying to tear the rim down. It hasn't moved a hair.

I'm home after 6:30 every night and off on friday/sat/sun. i'll pm my phone. you can come up and slam a shaft, or, i've got loose axle shafts you can swap, or i can swing by with my birf breaker.

re-read and don't see where you got disc stuff from. did you get a complete axle? from a 60, 40, or mini truck? if it's a 60 or 40 short side, you don't need to seperate the birf...just repack the birf by stuffing fresh grease in close to the axleshaft, forcing the old stuff out the outer edge.

Thanks. I may take you up on that if I can get the time. I'm going to give it one more go, but I'm on the verge of quiting it.
"Birf breaker" ?? That sounds cool. Maybe that will work.

Got the kit from Classic Cruisers in Salida. I need to take the inner axle off of the large spline birf to put into the fine spline birf. Merl from CC delivered the stuff to my house and he also suggested using the pipe method to separate the axles.

BFH!

I finally got the short inner axle out! A BFH was the answer. What a serious PITA that was.

Now I can focus on putting it all back together with the DB parts.

Howdy! Well, congrats on getting that sucker apart. Tell us the rest of the story. Was it rusted together, did somebody weld the inner clip on? John

I didn't notice anything visibly different about the clip shorter inner axle. It just put up a better fight.

Conversion Complete!

I finally finished my Disc Brake Conversion. It took me a while, but it's finally done. I wanted to have it done in time to drive it to the Rising Sun Rally in Denver last weekend and I would have if the master cylinder I ordered from CCOT worked, but it didn't and I had to buy another one from a local parts store. Oh well. I finished it up this week and it's back on the road and stops just fine. No more double pumping and it stays in a straight line. I may try to adjust the proportioning valve a bit, but it seems to work just fine right where it's at.
Thanks to the support from you mud members and some helpful links, I was able to do it all on my own (with the help of my wife on bleeding the brakes.)

Bleeding clutches and or brakes with the GF/fiance/wife is a great bonding experience. They feel like they are helping and are in greater support of the LandCruiser afterwards.

Goodjob on the DB conversion. Its makes a WORLD of difference.

As another note: The MC that MarlinCrawler sells is pretty much THE BEST one you can put on your trig IMO.

Thanks Zulu.

Kilgore huh? I used to make the turn there and headed south to SFA back in my college days. The land of tall women and virgin pines. I miss the piney woods sometimes.
