If you decide to go with a 2F/4speed, I have complete running 2F/4speed/t-case out of my 1978 FJ55 that I just pulled a week ago. It has 115K miles on it and it runs/drives great. PM if you are interested.

Guess why I pulled it?.........diesel swap! Just like RHINO, I love diesels. I am converting all of my Cruisers to diesel and the 55 was next in line. By no means is it logical....but I had the diesel and I had the 55. Why not?!

thanks for the info, and the offer for the 2F,I think Im going to see if I can piece a drive train together, using the Merc. 617 TD coupled to Toy h55.it might take me all winter to do so,money is tight!Hope to hear about all the new diesel installs goin down.Ill post pics as parts arrive.

ah, good to see it snowing at home. I miss the great UT. what about a 6at if your on a budget? not to complicate things hahaha, just a thought.

If it helps I've installed a 4BD-1T and several 4BTs and in reality they are nearly identical. Similar noise, similar "vibration" which is an issue of how you approach your motor mounts, and then it is a non-issue. It's funny how its all that's talked about with 4BTs but not Isuzu 4BDs. The only difference is the 4BD has a couple extra inches of room because its not as deep but it still needs oil pan mods on low height lifts.

I also put a OM617 Benz diesel into my heavy, cruiser-like 91 extra cab mini truck (an extremely difficult fit in this engine bay) with a FJ62 axle and the front pan of the Mercedes causes all sorts of fit problems though it might work better in a Land Cruiser if you position the engine forward. I used the 4x4 Labs adapter (gorgeous) to a Advance Adapters bellhousing to get to the Toy 5 speed. Right now my clutch is hitting the bellhousing so I need to figure something out on this side.

I have the 300D engine stripped of all emissions equipment and a 3" exhaust with good gauges and I think it should scream (or that is my hope). I'll be happy to report how it will does and it might make me re-think my approach to the 300D in a pig or a FJ60. I know it will power it fine but versus something like a 4BT it will be a different ball game I think...

I hope it helps

Also, Randy Ross from the 4BTswaps.com community recently purchased the Isuzu Diesel Swappers, who is one of our community leaders related to the Isuzu 4BD. I think we're going to see lots more Isuzu swaps in the near future. He has twin turbos on his.. :)

Andre- I have been dreaming of the Isuzu for the future. My pig is SUA and will probably stay that way. what oil pan modifications would be needed? is it doable/feasible for an SUA pig? does the Isuzu really have that much more clearance? or could I squeeze a 4BT in there?

you didnt ask me but i'll give my 2 cents anyway... i dont see a 4BT getting into a SUA pig,,, i can see a 4BD doing it with a mild lift at least,,, the oilpan mod consists of a notch for diff clearance. the engine has the space on that side for a decent size notch, but i havent done it myself so i cant go into detail.

The snow has been flyin her in Utski, should be a good year.I been hoping you would chime in Diesel cruiserhead.I would like to come up and check out projects, and pick your brain a bit.I dont know anymore, the Merc. oil pan needs to be modified a bit to fit, would love an Isuzu, but they are spendy.Looking to spend a few hundy for a good 617 TD.Soo Im up in the air on a final decision. Please keep the info flowin. Thanks all

RHINO- thanks for your input. I my rig is about 3 inches over stock, OME 2.5 springs and longer shackles. do you have a write up done on your rig? I noticed a while back that you had an Isuzu in your pig based on your sig. I'm really leaning towards the 4BD but the $$$ issue may make this an option for the distant future.

SAWTOOTH- forgive me for a bit of a highjack

i never did a real detailed writeup like dieselcruiserhead does,,, man i envy his ability to post such detailed info during a build.

but i do have quite a few pics of the after install and clearances with everything,, mind you i am SOA on 37's so it wont do you much good in that respect but you can see everything anyway,,, and as always if anyone wants a specific pic just ask.

here is my lazy build thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pig-preservation-society/157088-enough-talk.html

Thats a great thread Rhino, nice work. What does everyone think about running the 617 TD w/ auto trans, and divorced Toyota TC.Could save some time, but not sure if it is a good idea.Any thoughts?
