Did the 25's come with tube tires on one piece rims?

Just asking because I have a set of 16" fj45 rims that have a sticker on the inside- "do not mount tubeless tires on these rims" and I really want to mount the tubeless tires I just bought on these rims..... wish I saw the sticker first!

SWeet! How long have you been running them? And what did you use for valve stems? Seems the holes for the stems are a slightly different size and I wonder if that is why the stickers are there...?

Pete

i dont know why either...i do know that some defender rims say the same thing...and most run tubeless anyway...probably for added security in certain areas...like very sandy/desert maybe?

just have the tire guy use some bead sealer as well :) or run tubes in the rims....i've seen it done alot

not long enough to offer any feedback. the vehicle these wheels are mounted on will never deem airing down the tires:meh:

And what did you use for valve stems?

local tire store made that decision, only thing I ask is weather the valve stems they use have metal cores. I would never run solid rubber valve stems after I ripped 5 of 5 off or my trailer rims, with "E" rated tires..................made NO SENSE

now that i'm looking at them...they are a deep drop center rim...the normal split rims are a semi-drop center rim

do the normal 15" rims have a hump on the bead seat base? the hump is to prevent the bead from sliding off the rim.

maybe i can find some pics

Ok- got it figured out. No safety bead. My tires will be be aired down but not too low. I'm going to run it. I'm not to worried about the bead coming off at low speed. I was more concerned about road use. Peter's link was a good help:

Wheel tech - Tubeless tires & Safety rims

This guy has put his wheels to the test with standard rims and had no issues. My 72 BMW 2002 is built like a rally car and I have put those wheels through all kinds of stuff with no issues- even on r coumpond tires. I drive my bj44 like a baby on the streets and specifically going around corners just to preserve tire wear so I think I'll be fine.

Best!

Peter-

Why did you end up putting tubes in your tires? Split rims? what kind of mileage have they seen? I'm pretty sure I'm going to put these on without tubes.

the issue with a rim that has no hump (hump bead or safety bead) when it does deflate it has a very high chance of the tire bead coming off the rim and then your on the rim when deflated and not the rubber

I guess when the tire deflates with the tube... the tube keeps the tire from pushing off the bead

from what i have read an advantage would be that if you had tire plyers it would be easy to pull out the tube ...repair...and return to the road when there's no hump to break free

a friend runs tubes in his 69 bronco ...he said he has had no issues ever

The old Michelin tires I drove befor had also tubes.
Mileage since I have them about 9000.

Sorry guys- I'd sooner buy another set of tires just to use these.

I found 2 sources that say the "K" designation simply refers to the height of the lip. The K is .77 inches. My tires match this height just fine. Just a little enamel on the insides where they are rusty spots and the tires will go on. As well as the hub caps.....

No humps but hey....

Thank Peter-

I love both of your trucks! Did you make the decision to run tubes due to the rim type? If so what did you see as the advantage to doing so?

Pete

I just heard back from STA. Their tires are designed for J profile flanged wheels. However there is not problem what so ever running them on K profile.

There ya go!

Thanks Pete,
love my trucks too. ;)
Decision was that these rims were developed for running tubes.
Don`t know if there is any advantage with the tubes in them.
Tyre pressure I run on the tube tyres is 2,5 Atü on all wheels.
Cheers
Peter.
