quick question fellas

So chatting with LCNW ( rig will be done soon which is awesome )

And it occurred to me, That IF Portland Engine Rebuilders locked out heat riser valve in the wrong position when they redid the manifolds ( machine baked etc )... But if they Locked it out in cold instead of hot, could all that that heat blasting up into the intake cause the head gasket to pop ( also cause it to run a bit rich ) ?

Did not even occur to me to check as they set it up...
Easy to look and check, just curious

Don`t think so ( what they have done they used a wrong head gasket *, that`s the reason for all your trouble, I think )
" Heat riser valve:
A control valve between the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe on one side of a V8 or V6 engine that restricts the flow of exhaust causing it to flow back through the heat riser channel under the intake manifold. This aids fuel evaporation and speeds engine warm up. A heat riser valve stuck open will slow engine warm-up and may cause hesitation and stalling when the engine is cold. A valve stuck in the closed position will greatly restrict the exhaust system and cause a noticeable lack of power and drop in fuel economy. "

FWIW, this was what my heat riser looked like a week ago, problem I was having was as it was stuck it would overheat the carb, since repair seems to run much better.

turned around

I walked over to LCNW yesterday afternoon and they had turned the truck around, but it is not in the shop, still in the parking lot. Maybe turning around is prep to work on it in the lot? They do some work in the lot.

Hope they get to it soon.

I think they roll it in and out :)

The had to make a new bracket for the new wather pump ( bracket for the generator as the bolt mount is dif ) and cap the oil cooling spout on the water pump.

Hopefully it should be all squared soon :)

Quick question....

so if I Pull the 2 exhuast bolts and shine a flash light up there is should look like the image below ( which means in the full "hot" position correct?

My wife also has her own income. Greater then mine lately. She would be happy if I only had two FJ40s. The TLC count is at fourteen plus a warehouse of parts. Less than three years ago we moved into a house with a second 650 sqft garage and huge RV parking. Last year we build a 1,100 sqft garage at our second home. I'm am not complainting about my better half I get treated better than I should. :cheers:
 
Correct, all direct exhaust flowing through pipe. Mine was stuck and as the repair parts do not exist, I got the valve working and hooked a spring to keep it fixed. As it gets very cold here in the winter I can remove the spring/operate the valve if needed. Bottom line if you can't move it by hand it's a problem.

I had it freed up and moving before the shop resurfaced and baked it etc. ( portland engine rebuilders )
The locked it in one position when i got it back.

I just need to make sure they locked it in the correct position. :)

Just came back from work and see there is no need to answer anymore, bin beaten tot it.
One question stil remains is was the valve stuck when you got your cruiser because it would explain the problems with your old carb being warped.

yeah when they rebuilt the motor they needed all new valves :)
It was fried :D

Sounds like your only problem is her having to much time keeping you from your cruisers.:D

I believe destin he is asking if the high riser was frozen before the rebuild. Not the valves in the head. The extra heat on the intake might explain the warped carburator.
 
yeah when i first bought it it was frzen in the cold position.

i then freed it up and placed it in the hot position :)
Very likely what warped the carb originally.
But that is all old news :D

However i had the intake exhaust remachined at PER, and i am questioning whether or not they pinned it in cold or warm.

And my question is whether or not that could have blown the head gasket :D

need to double check.
