I haven't owned a 60, but the 62 does just fine as far as speed/RPMs are concerned.

No sense getting in a hurry though. It has to downshift a lot on long grades if you want to be
in a hurry to get somewhere.

I also recommend the Bob Marley tunes, but definitely not his cigarettes. Not to sound uptight....


Cruisers rule, and everyone who comments on either one of mine has loved it !!!!!!

Unless maybe the are stuck behind me going up a long hill. We've got a lot of those in the Ozarks.

I drive an '87 FJ60 at 55-70 mph at 2500-3000 rpms running 31 inch tires. Obvsiously the grade impacts speed but hiting 70 downhill feels pretty fast.

A Rover owner hit me up at a gas station willing to trade and offered $$$ too. I passed and recommended he check the local paper because my Crusr was going nowhere but home with me!

I'm late to the party, but to extend this thread a little further:

I too feel your pain, and maybe a little worse. My clutch is absolutely shot, and any long grades (which are pretty common here in CO) means a long, slow haul up the hill with the clutch slipping the whole way. If a regular 60 is slow, then a 60 w/a seriously worn clutch is something else entirely.

Still, it's my first week w/my new truck, and I knew this speed issue came with the territory. A good stereo helps a bit. I just sit back and relax, because there's nothing I can do but keep driving until I get there.

It's funny. I drove my Civic down to Albuquerque to swap for the Landcruiser last weekend. Both my friend and I were convinced on the way back that the 'Cruiser had a better ride on the highway. It's just nice to be all big and floaty as opposed to low and tight like the Honda was. My 'Cruiser rides pretty nice on the highway, even w/a 3" shackle lift (at least after I backed off the torque on the shackle pins that the PO had WAY overtightened, by doing so binding the shackles). I also found driving the 'Cruiser to be a lot easier over distances than the Civic namely because I was going so much slower. There's a lot less to pay attention to when you're just cruisin in the right lane w/everyone going around you at mach 10. In my Honda, I was constantly manuevering through traffic and passing people, but not having that option in the 'Cruiser has been quite relaxing. In fact a lot fewer people on the road get on my nerves in the 'Cruiser than in the Honda. Landcruiser: the cure for road rage. The road would be a lot more pleasant place if everyone drove slow-ass trucks. Can't say I miss the Honda a whit (OK, I miss the 35 mpg, I admit).

Finally, I gotta say that one of the coolest aspects of driving this truck is simply belonging to the club. I love waving or nodding to other 'Cruisers on the road. I even got a thumbs up today from a guy in a seriously modded Heep TJ.
