Hey folks, '84 FJ60.

I had the option to either rebuild or buy a new one, so I got my hands on a Denso 27020-61111 alternator. Two parts: 1) Worth it? 2) wondering if anyone has successfully installed it on their rig? After searching the forums and various sources, it seems I should be able to install it as shown, as long as I can figure out the connector.
  • Heavy red cable → B+ stud on new alternator (same as now)
  • My green two-pin plug → F/N connector on new alternator
  • The old regulator box gets removed, no longer in the circuit
  • Dash warning light has to stay working (that's the excitation), routed through the plug
Thoughts?

What's the application for that alternator and what is the max power output?

There's a thread called "Alternator Altering" that goes over how to install a 1990-1992 FJ80 (3FE) 80A alternator where the plug is 3-pin instead of the stock 2F 2-pin plug. You jumper a couple contacts and it all works with the charge light.

I also make a bracket for installing the FJ80 alternator since the tension "ear" is clocked differently than the stock alternator. I'm not sure how your new alternator is clocked, but it may be helpful to you.

OK, I went through that entire thread. I have a good idea of what I need to do, and I will order the bracket from you. Come and pick up both parts at the same time!

Looks like it's an 70-series alternator for a 3F?

I believe Ross told me you’re south, maybe in Monument? I’m near central Denver, so just ping me privately and we can work something out!
