Deformed water inlet on block?

Sorry if my terminology isn't correct, I'm learning as I'm going. I have the head off and I'm cleaning the block. I've noticed a deformation on one of the water inlets between cylinders 1 and 2. Maybe it has been like this or maybe I was too aggressive with the gasket scraper.

I ran a shop vac over the hole in case there's a metal fragment in there now, water comes up so it doesn't seem clogged. The head gasket covers the area completely but what does the forum think?

Some of these have a small hole, but as you said the gasket covers them completely. Clean up any loose crud and you should be good to go
 
A carbide edged scraper works well to remove old gasket material and light surface corrosion if you use it correctly ie: keep it at a very shallow angle to the block surface. IME one method is to pull backwards across the surface, but still holding the scraper at a shallow angle. Avoid using "Roloc" or other abrasive disks, they leave a ton of abrasive material behind in every hole and can create high and low spots in the deck.

SS1 (1-1/4" wide blade) and/or SS2 (2" wide blade) The other sizes IME are too narrow, more likely to get caught on and dig into edges of holes/cylinders.

Ok, that was my first thought, but it does look like the cast iron is chipped on this particular port. I think I'll continue to clean it up and send it since the gasket should cover that up.

Yes I have the gearwrench scrapers. It sure is a delicate balance between applying enough force to get the stubborn gasket and carbon buildup off, while not being too aggressive.
