Maybe it's a bad flasher?

I had the buzzing noise when all the leds were installed. So I researched and came across this thread. It look so easy. Went to napa got to part went home took the kick panel off. I unplugged the old one put the new one in and nothing not even a flash. Scratch my head plug the old one back in and it works. Do I add the bottom part of the old flasher, If so how cause the old wont fit?

I didn't use the adapter with the new flasher. Could that be my issue?

Yeah, and the metal thing that is attached to the middle tab that moves the tab to the other side - you need that too.

fwiw, i am unhappy to report that cheap chinese ebay 1157 LED tail lights do not seem to work in these trucks. I think the polarity is switched or something.

Eliminate blower fan indicator autodim

I'm in the process of replacing my dash lights and I noticed that the little green LED's indicating the speed of the heater blower fan turn off when you turn on the lights. Being a fan of a bright dash anyway I decided to disable the autodim on my heater control. It turned out to be super easy. Simply take the ends of the two resistors closest to the white plug, disconnect them from the board, and solder them together. This cuts off the "headlight on" signal to those LED's but still provides it to the backlighting.

The result is that the indicator LED's remain fullly bright regardless of whether you have the headlights on or not. The three lights that provide backlight to the buttons are unaffected and still go on and off with the headlight switch and respond to the dimmer. The indicator LED's do not respond to the dimmer rheostat, but I never dim it anyway so that doesn't bother me. I'm considering replacing it with a permanent resistor anyway in order to free up the switch space.

A few things:

I found some type B bulbs that work great in the dash. They don't seem to have the directional issues that the other ones do. Autolumination calls them "Japanese OEM Neo - Wedge LED Instrument Panel Bulbs" I've attached a picture of them. I used them in the heater controls and in the defrost button. I used side facing SMD's in the hazard and CDL switches. You can see the side facing SMD is much brighter. I'll probably change those to the previous ones I mentioned.

The defrost and CDL buttons have a green film on the back of the symbol that causes the illumination to be green even with a clear light (picture included). When you switch to a different color like red or blue, this film blocks nearly all the light. I tried sanding off the green film with 1500 grit sandpaper, but I wound up sanding off the whole label.

I also included a picture of my dash with green LED's. I may wind up changing to red, but I think green LED's still look better than stock, because the stock is more of a washed out yellow/green than the crisp green that LED's provide.
