Thanks for your input. Why you feel my phone cannot be viewed while driving is beyond me. But I am not going to argue with you.

Not confused. Your missing my point. It's a HUGE safety issue to not know what is going on with the engine in a easy to see manner. Looking at your phone is NOT the solution in the long term if you are actually going to do this. You need a real gauge, in your line of sight all the time. Blocking the radiator is DANGEROUS IMHO. You need proper precautions. There are even OBD2 electric gauges that are small can can be mounted on the dash. My buddy had one on this track car years ago.

Who doesn't have a windshield phone mount these days?

Geez, Do you not use your phone for other things? Like making calls, maybe nav. If you don't think it's important to monitor your engine all the time when the rad is blocked then ignore me. To me it's foolish to do this with out a real gauge that works all the time that you don't have to remember to turn on in a app. When you forget to turn it on and it gets hot is when you will fry your engine. Why risk a memory lapse and a resulting burnt up engine.

Unwatching this thread.

^Haha

I don't know what kinds of things you feel drastically happen to engine temps cruising along on the street, but to each their own in this case. You can set alarms to alert you of temp increases if that would make you feel better. But its pretty safe to say once I understand the temps grill blocks can be put into place (lets say below 30 degrees), I will not worry about them on a daily basis as long as the ambient temp is below the known safe range.

Don't let this thread die!

How is the fuel economy with the grille block?

There is a company that makes grille blocks that are electronically controlled, they use them on the newer Subarus. You could probably get one to fit the GX. Or make a set with some old miniblinds and a motor.

I will try not to.!!

Wisconsin is seeing above average temps right now, and I cannot find my OBDII adapter, so grill blocks have been put on hold, as well as the deck plate mod. But I did make them, so when the I find the OBDII adapter I will start data logging.

I know there are a few OE's that are doing electronically controlled devices to open/close openings in the grill (dodge ram I think?). That would be fun, and probably not hard to accomplish.
