A few weeks ago I brought home a 55 Chev for the wife and I to restore for her DD and it got me thinking. I live in Ca. and have to deal with very strict smog laws which has been the main hassle and delay for getting my 83 P/U on the road. I was sitting there looking at all the work that needed to be done on the Chev and thought how easy it was going to be to get running with out all the computer and smog BS, then it came to me; Why not through all my running gear in an older truck that I don't have to smog...

I talked it over with the wife and she loved the idea,(as long as her's was done first :censor:)

So here's the plan:
Sell the complete body from my 83 (posted in classifieds) and buy a 51-56 Willys flat fender pickup, plop that body on my chassis and cut away 90% of the wiring/smog/vacuum equipment and make life a little easier.

And here is the Question:

Has anyone on here done this yet? If so, what are some of the issues you ran into with the conversion.

Tell me what you think and check out my posting in the classifieds for prices on parts.

The CHP and DMV will get you.

You will require a vehicle inspection and VIN verification. This includes your frame number (rightside frame between the tire and firewall), VIN from body including proof of sale. SMOG will be equal to the latest(newest) componant of your build.

I have an '80 frame, '85 body, '92 engine. Mine is considered a SPCN, Special Construction.

Buy the complete Willy's and just build that. LOTS less headache.

Since this is a TOYOTA forum, I fixed it for you... :grinpimp:

had the local CHP officer that does Vin verification tell me that once it is registered and verified as a willys I can pretty much do anything I want with it. So I guess the plan is to get a willys and get it verified and titled/registered, THEN put the body on my frame.
