Had nav/radio issue this morning. Reset worked well by removing the ground. Dealer says might need software update, took it to them to look at, say it’s obsolete and saying I need a new radio. I am sure they would like to sell me one for $5k. I find it hard to believe a 5 year old radio is obsolete. Any thoughts.

Sure they are a little out dated, but I don't think they are obsolete. Obsolete to me would mean they have an upgraded head unit and that is something I'd like to see.

Waiting to hear back from them what the term actually means. It might just be that it won’t accept a software update. But I think the head unit seams to control a lot of the NAV system. Screen goes blank and Bluetooth. Reset works, but wanted to find out why the problem showed in first place.

It sounds like by “obsolete” he meant it is unrepairable?

Seems a very odd word choice from the dealer, especially since a replacement would be identically out-dated.

If he had a magic way to plop a new type of radio in there...do tell, as that would be very big news.

This, for $700+Install

I recently took a 2010 iMac in to the apple store because I was having some issues with it. They said it needed a new hard drive but they couldn’t work on it because Apple deemed it “obsolete”. I would have to take it to an independent to have a hard drive installed. The iMac has a terabyte hard drive and 16 gigs of ram and worked great up until that point. They said any Mac over 5 years old is obsolete according to Apple. Craziest thing I’ve every heard.

Probably just means they keep parts on hand at little Apple Stores for 5 year old machines and newer...and parts/resources they don’t Keep on hand for them to service older stuff.
-The back end of Apple stores aren’t warehouse sized... Their techs are mostly there for routine stuff, and the mass amount of help is to phone users.

There should be refurbished units available through the dealer parts department that are significantly less expensive. You probably came across a bad parts guy.
