Hey guys - I tried to start my LC this morning and it was completely dead. A little background - it has a new battery and a new starter that were put in a few months ago.

It is stuck in park and I can't shift it to neutral to move it so I can jump it. What's my next step here? What could be causing this issue?

It's so dead that the door locks don't even work.

Pop the shift lock cover on the center console (I think it's to the left of the shifter, maybe a little closer to the console tower) so you can put it into neutral and move it someplace safe.

All connections are secure? No corrosion on the battery terminals? Have you tested the battery while running recently to be sure the alternator isn't crapping out?

Edit, it should allow you to put the transmission into neutral by just turning the key to the ON position. I'm not aware of an electric-powered lock out at the ignition though. If there is one, you should still be able to disengage the shift lock from the console. I had to do the same to move my LX back and forth before the wrecker took her to Cruiser heaven.

Pop this cover off and push the little button inside. This will get you out of park.

Tried jumping it with no luck. Nothing happens. No sounds or clicking. The only light that comes on the dash is the open door light. Locks don't work. No other lights come on.

I had a running car hooked up to it for 30 minutes.

Have you put a meter on the battery?

I think if you aren't getting any power at all even hooked up to a running alternator, there's a bigger issue. I'm notoriously terrible with electrics though.

You cannot jump an LC with a small car and crappy cables, i've tried, didn't work. You need a big truck with a beefy battery and some thick cables. Or one of those jump boxes with 1000CA rating or something.

That is my personal experience ymmv

Sienna with a v6 too wimpy?

Maybe, what kind of cables are you using? Them walmart tooth floss ones ain't gonna cut it, i thought my starter was dead, used those cheap cables and got nothing. Neighbor saw us struggle and gave us heavy duty ones and truck started right up, this is when i learned cable made a difference when jumping cars.

Try to start directly from a battery from a running car. Take lc battery out and install the other battery there. If it starts then problem is in the battery. Most autopart store batteries are garbage even Bosch. NAPA got goos brands, any S.C Johnson made mattery is good

I second this, its not going to work if the LC battery totally dead or bad even. Has happened to me on a another car

I had a dead battery 2 months ago on my 1 year old agm battery. I always carry a 1000 CCA jumper box and the LC failed to start on the 1st try as the battery was so dead, waited 5 minutes to get it started on the 2nd try BUT as soon as I removed the jumper box - the engine died. That's when I knew my alternator had died totally and was running on battery only. I then took my agm battery to autozone to get it fully charged and used it till the denso remanu alternator from rockauto arrived. hope this info helps and do second a good fully charged battery to see what happens next.

Also check that the metal rod from behind the ignition lock didn’t break. I’m not explaining this well but it is a somewhat common failure.

Check the battery terminals for grease or dirt between the metal contacts. Unscrew it, clean it, and try jumping again. I had an issue where i thought my battery was dead and it ended up being dirt caught between the contact that caused a poor connection. Try that.

So here's where I'm at. Pulled the battery and brought it to autozone where they charged it. He said he charged it 100% and then tested it about an hour later and it was only at 65% charge. So according to him, it is not holding a charge.

I put it in the truck and it started up. What are the odds that a battery manufactured in 3/2018 would have this issue?

Is there anything that could be causing my truck to kill batteries? I have a volt meter showing up tomorrow to start doing some testing.

It's possible to get a defective battery... And yes maybe you have a parasitic draw that is draining the battery down, but if your current battery is not holding a charge then thats the first step. Good thing you're getting a meter, without it you're just guessing.
