Check for water or evidence of it there previously under the front door sill trim.

Keep an eye on your volt meter when the lights dim. Total different rig my 91 fj80 but before my alternator failed I had dimming dashboard lights

Volt meter doesn't drop and alternator is charging. Starting no problem everything works fine just the lights playing up . Batteries good 1 year old higher cca rating then the original one.

I’d check both sides.

Garaged certainly helps but this is such a common source of electrical problems and is a really easy thing to check, it’s just worth your time to rule out.

No need to remove the carpet... just do what's in this video on both sides and look for water in the area around the harness. If you aren't sure there was never water there (it could have dried out), you can open the connectors and look for evidence of corrosion.. it'll usually be a greenish color. The pins themselves should all be light gray to silver, with a handful of them possibly being gold.

Hi did wat you recommended no sign of water or corrosion. As I said I have never gone off road or in deep water ever checked all grounds in engine bay and checked the gear selector connection all normal.

One more thing I noticed with door open and door closed. Check the photos will this indicate failing alternator ?? Any help will be appreciated.

So Mr Toyota wants to take out the combination meter assy and send it to get LCD screen tested so can be repaired or not. Or buy new for 1200nzd and send it to match odometer reading which is another 900nzd plus Toyota labour charge 178/hr .

Oh funny thing is a used 2nd hand combination meter assy with over 200000 km asking for 1500ausd wat a rip off. Anyone else had to repair or replace combination meter assy i would like to know. Anyone knows where the odometer mileage is stored on the instrument cluster itself or pcm or some other module?

The water usually gets in the door sills from clogged sunroof drains or leaking windshields, not deep water. If it was mine, I would pull those connectors to check for corrosion just to make sure all is good.
