Hey, lookin' like we have the makins of a 60's run. Looks Good Kai.

82 soa 60: Are you 4WD-able yet? Did you cut Kai a fat deal on your 33's and so this means 35's?

So when are we goin' and where?

I measured the distance between the center of the hub and the bottom of the fender and it's about 22.5 inches.

Cool. Thanks for that. I think mine is 21" at the front and 20.5" on the rear. I'm gonna put the 33x10.5x15 on first and see how it looks then.

We should definately get something going Ken. I will have to talk to Kief and the others here.

Here is another Dakar lift with 33x12.5x15's on it. This is DJSH's rig up in Portland.

Ok, I'm hijacking.
I see about 5 people in this thread from Oregon . . .
. . . so I want to know who you are and where you are from : ) (and I'll even start)

I'm Brian, I live in Medford OR, I just bought a 85 FJ60. No its not trail ready yet but I do have my 84 Excab yota and it is : ). I also have two friends living here that have 84 yotas that like to have fun. So let me know.

<edit>And if your nice I'll even answer the phone 541-778-4227<edit>

We put 4.11's in FJKai's rig along with a Detroit in the rear and a Lock Right up front. He also has picked up a Warn M8000. John Groves also built his bumpers (local Cruiserhead here in Grants Pass).

Me, 82-SOA-60 and FJKai are all here in Grants Pass. Me and FJKai are ready to run and 82 is doing a whole engine/drivetrain swap as we speak. Look us up, we will be doing many local runs starting this month.

This is directed to Dr. Dearborn as much as to FJKai's krew:
- Is the Dakar combo "engineered" - i.e. shock length matched to spring travel & shackle length?
- Does it use the stock bump stops?
- Did not the 1-1/2" longer shackles result in 3/4" lift over stock Dakar?
- What about U-bolt flip kits (MAF, for example)? - do they interfere with the designed shock travel?

Trying to lay out my suspension upgrade & like everything I saw in this thread.

I'd come over for sixty run if I was invited :) It'd be cool to meet some listers that are fairly close.

Cool, when I get mine done I'll have to give you a hollar. I do some runs on 140 too so thats not as far : )

1. Yes, the OME shocks do come in different lenghts and you get the proper lenght for your application.
2.Yes, stock is fine.
3. I think I understand your question: Stock 62 shackles are 3" eye to eye. OME shackles are 3 1/8" eye to eye. So, OME shackles themselves provide no real lift over stock. The addition of the 1 1/2" over shackles would add the 3/4" of lift you described. Was that the question?
4. I guess in theory you would want shorter shocks on the up travel so they dont bottom out before the axle flexes to its max up point. Your down travel would be shorter also. We could measure them out. In practice I am sure they would be fine as is.

EDIT*** David beat me to the reply ***

YES on shock lenght/spring travel.
YES on stock bump stops.
We are guessing we got 1/2" to 3/4" over stock Dakar.
Unless the flip kit keeps the shock mounts just below the axle then you won't receive the full benefit from the design. I would suggest just running some bolt skidplates underneath and call it good.

RredFJ40 you are more than welcome on any of our runs. Send me a PM with your info and I will get in touch!
