Thanks! I don't see how the U-bolt flip would affect suspension travel if the shocks were spec'd right, only if you had to go to shorter shocks because of the reduced distance between the new lower & stock upper mounts.

What if you went to shackles extended by twice the amount of the change in the shock mount location? Wouldn't that allow you to use the "standard" Dakar length shocks? Would the increased height affect highway handling noticeably?

I see about 5 people in this thread from Oregon . . .
. . . so I want to know who you are and where you are from : ) (and I'll even start)

I'm Brian, I live in Medford OR, I just bought a 85 FJ60. No its not trail ready yet but I do have my 84 Excab yota and it is : ). I also have two friends living here that have 84 yotas that like to have fun. So let me know.

<edit>And if your nice I'll even answer the phone 541-778-4227<edit>

Hey Brian, and so the local cruiser-head population grows. Doing our part for the energy crisis!
I am in Williams, work in Medford, saw you running down stewart with that smile on your 60. I was hoping to bump into ya and get a parts rig, looks like you're going the other way. We need to get a local board going or at least an occasional get together.

Hehe, actually Kief I got this cruiser because the owner (origional) didn't want to part it out. When you saw it this weekend it was in better shape than when I got it : ) He actually had MAF, Spector, and a couple of others down there offer to by it for parts.
Hey you've got my number, give me a call if somethin comes up : )

OME Dakar Update

Well since we installed the dakar lift with an extra 1.5" long shackel on March 20th, things are still working good. The ride is still great and I have no complaints. I still have a slight rake in the appearance, but other than that, I'm totally happy with the performance. I think the back end is about 1" higher than the front, which isn't too bad or too noticeable but hopefully over more time it will "settle" a bit down and be more even. I got some pretty heavy bumpers and a winch which I'm sure is adding to the "rake" appearance. So far the lift install was by far the easiest mod I've done and the kit from David Dearborn all bolted up with no problems (make sure you have at least 2 floor jacks for ease). I would like to hear back from any others with the OME Dakar and how their ride "settled." By far the smoothest riding suspension lift I've ever rode in. Would recommend it to all considering a suspension lift with no questions.
