Hi Everyone! I just picked up my new to me FJ80 yesterday and love it so far. It needs some love, but I'm excited to add a new project to the garage. The previous owner cut the exhaust at the header for whatever reason, and it's obnoxiously loud. I've added a photo of the rig and of the part that is cut. It's right behind the front driver side wheel well. What part would I need to order to replace this? I could have an exhaust shop just weld it back, but I'd rather just replace to make sure it's all good. Thanks!

It's the entire section from the exhaust manifold and includes the first catalytic converter.

Check to see, Magnaflow has one that is a bolt-in and may fit, but they are expensive.

For $40, I'd have a local exhaust shop weld it back together.

Maybe the cat's are plugged and that's how he tested them.....

What year is your truck?

Or a tweaker was trying to steal them and got scared off before he finished.

Considering he's in a suburb of Dallas......I think you're right!

I heard of a LC200 that someone tried to steal the cats from. They caught a fuel line with their saw and had enough sense to stop. But, when the dealer went to show the vehicle to a customer, the fuel ignited from the hot exhaust and burned the vehicle down. Sad end for a brand new vehicle.

You're probably best off having a local shop weld it together instead of spending the money for the down-pipes. Get a new exhaust when it makes sense in your build.

It's actually two pipes on that unit. The '93-'94 is unique and most of it's not compatible with the '95-'97 which does have that y-pipe. You could go from the manifold back and switch or go custom, but if you just want those two pipes repaired, either weld them up or buy the pipes from Mr. T. The aftermarket stuff available is of a lower quality unless you go custom. The Toyota stuff all just bolts on and you can use aftermarket cats and muffler, as long as they are spec'ed for this truck. I have AM stainless cats, Mr. T small y-pipe, a Walker aluminized steel muffler and the rest is all new pipes, resonator, gaskets, hangers, etc. from Toyota and I think it was money well spent. The Walker is a disappointment though. I even painted it before install but the paint burned off immediately and the can is already rusty after 1.5 winters in salt country. Everything is holding up well.

The LC exhaust systems are 409 SS and should be welded with 309SS or 308SS wire.

Closer look says you're right. People need to put what they are driving in their sig line so people like me don't end up wasting bandwith. ;)

Does Mr. T still sell that pipe? If so, I would go with that. Or weld the old one correctly.

As a side note, the battery powered "saws-all" has really put the bad guys in a better spot. Nobody should be able to walk around with that type of power without at least a minimum background check. Just sayin'. Thievery gets a lot easier when you can just bozz through any physical security device with no issues and cut valuable hunks of metal off of anything you come across. Brave new world, I suppose...

BILT4ME - Thanks for the reply! It's a 91. I didn't realize the cat was attached to the same pipe. I picked it up last night and didn't completely inspect it. I figured it was a pipe that went from the headers and attached to the cat.

Always possible! I believe it sat on a ranch somewhere for a while. Or they thought it would be cool to be loud?

The quick and easy to use Sawzalls are crazy.

I just picked up a 3fe parts rig. I am sure I could get you a stock replacement of you want to go that route rather than weld it back together.

The first owner cut it, and the guy I bought it from had no idea why.

Part of the racin mod, the louder it is, the faster it is!:hillbilly: Grab the mig and stick it back together.
