Gauges, done!

Got the headboard cut out of the tray. It had a single piece of 32mm SHS right in the centre obstructing the rearview. Going to replace with two pieces of 32mm SHS and align them either side of the rear window.

Before, kind of:

After. Needs new SHS installed obviously.

I also took the top board off the tray. It was too high and kinda dicky looking. Got me a litre of 416 in an oil based house paint and brushed it on. The match is pretty incredible actually!

I like your workshop! Well ventilated, lots of light and enough space.
Nothing like a Dutch winter.

Well today it all came together. Sneaky, Pete and my house mate Michael lent a hand to drop the new-to-me-tub on. Sneak and Pete stayed on and helped out with a few other bits an pieces, but mostly Pete who stayed well past dinner time to help me install the rear panel, roof and hang both doors. Fxxxing champion. I trucked on for the rest of the afternoon solo and just before dusk the rig looked like a 45 again. A damn fine one I might add:

Earlier in the day I ran my new hard lines:

Tomorrow I gotta install door handles so I can lock the old girl up, then it's almost a week's break as I'm filming in Sydney.

Just wanted to shout out massively to Pete 84TROOPY and to sneaky for the help. Literally would have been fkd without you lads!

Lastly, I may have begun this build with less-than-stellar mechanical choices, but today wouldn't have gone so smoothly without ensuring all bolts matched and were lubed and pre-installed. That's my tip! You might need 75 different sized spanners to pull a truck apart but damn it's nice to need only three to put it back together!

Lastly, I've been working on this truck on the street for three weeks. I live in a nice street. Nice houses. Money. I'd always assumed I was messing up their nice street. But late yesterday afternoon the couple across the road returned from their walk and yelled out that things were 'looking good!'. Made my day actually :)

Cleaned up this morning, banged out a few easy tasks: turn signal assy. on; wheel on; door lock and handles on [PITA]; doors adjusted; some brake hard lines in. Have a question about R/T adjustment later. Dropped marquee and basically made the whole show presentable for a week whilst I'm NLA.

Oh, I sat in it. Such a treat! Can't wait to drive this thing!

Run em son
Done. Gittin' close to bringin these parts back to ya son. Week, maybe two. Back home tomorrow and straight into it 'fore Monday begins.

The 45 looking good cult
Thanks Brian! It'd make a trip down to you now I reckon :)

Dropped a full day on the old girl yesterday, just sorted some final things before auto-sparky.

Spent three hours gapping the front end. Always hated the 'Cruiser overbite' and crooked front panels. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good for an old farm truck.

Pax side is not the greatest but it'll do. For now.

Finally threw the rubber on the D/S door. Gaps are pretty good both sides. A few posts back I mentioned that I had a question about hardtop installation on a R/T 45. My rear windscreen panel doesn't sit fully flush on the tub. I have reefed, pushed, unbolted, rebolted, manipulated, cursed and willed it into place but there's still gaps between the leading edge of the doors and the front windscreen panel [see below]. It was like this on the previous tub, but much worse. So what's the trick? How do you make it sit square? I need to be able to sleep at night knowing my cab is on straight..

Also installed these new terminal blocks to replace the $70 genuine ones. They're kinda neat. Ran some wires, did some testing but still can't get any fire anywhere. Sparky said he'd wander over this week. He's good to me that man. Booster in too. All hard lines in a plumbed. Need to sort the disparity between the later tub and the earlier column with a flat plate that allows me to run the 1970 type plate and grommet. Also had a visitor from a fellow 45'er. If anyone doubts the power you can get out of a stock F.5 - this man can chirp 2nd!

With great power comes great responsibility
Or maybe you forgot the catskinner in cults 253 45 gravel chirp broken axle incident haha

Maybe they should change that to 'with great torque comes great responsibility' for the still Toyota engined trucks to account for the loss of torque when you install SBH motors. Ol' sneaky has another quote about the constabulary that I may or may not pin to him. It's not friendly, but it may be accurate haha.

Oh yeah, I got the ignition and pilot lights mounted, the loom run, the UHF and gauges in and the fuse panel installed.

Is a 1970 wiper knob different to a 1974 type? I've always been missing mine.

how could I have missed out on the fun? nice looking truck buddy, soon to cruise on a big open roads. with no hiccups and a big grin;)

Thanks 47! How's your rig going?

Waiting on fire. That is all.

Impatience breeds learning. And we have liftoff! Sourced a 1970 diagram from coolerman [as usual mate and thanks again!], read this: Turn key and nothing.... and had a gander at my setup. Had the main power lead from the amp gauge on the fuel gauge. Why? Same reason we have all the uranium but haven't decided to nuke anyone yet: it's a mystery. Only issue is I tried to reinstall the instrument cluster and things got a little sparky, so for the minute it's resting on the column. Also have no headlights, indicators or anything. But I have the engine running!

Also filled and bled the brakes, running into this small issue:

Trying to find another.
