    D_web and I are coming up tonight.

    Does anyone have a 54mm axle socket they can loan me? None available in town, and I didn't order in time for the weekend. I have a box of Marlin Crawler bits i would like to install.

    MEETING NOTES

    Copper State Cruisers monthly Phoenix meeting
    January 19, 2018 @ 7:30 PM
    Sonic on Broadway, Tempe, AZ

    First Time Visitors

    None?

    New Members

    @SimTechDJ
    Dave owns a multicolored ’91 FJ80 (he hates the color but not everyone thinks it’s so bad) with 195k miles on it. He says it’s a work in progress, and has only owned it about a month and a half. It’s the first Land Cruiser he’s owned, but he has worked on a bunch of 40s in the past, restoring them when he was younger. He was nice enough to bring us a bunch of cookies for the meeting, thank you!

    @ARJMN
    Jason owns a ’96 LX450, which just recently rolled over 200k miles. Jason was on the January ROTM of Rug Road and was the one who lost the axle studs. Thanks to everyone who helped get him back up and running on the trail. He is now working on rebuilding front axle after that situation. The truck has got 3” OME, med/heavy springs; ARB front bumper, winch, Safari rack, Safari kit, fridge, drawers, 2nd battery, etc. He has had it since February 2017, about a year. He came up all the way from Tucson with @D_Web for this meeting.

    Run of the Month

    January@murf led JAN ROTM: Rug Road > Turkey Creek Jan 13-14 A small group camped Friday night and some of that group met others Saturday in Mammouth to run the Rug Road trail. About 9 trucks went on the actual run. This was a scenic trip that ended up being a bit hard on the trucks: we had a breakdown (lost axle studs), a popped tire, a broken snorkel; and several dents and scrapes. Several other members drove out for camping only at Turkey Creek on Saturday night, which was a really cool camp spot. There was lots of delivious dessert provided: @ARJMN made dutch oven peach cobbler, @D1EZEL's wife provided two homemade apple caramel pies, and @aztlctina brought a batch of delicious chocolate chip cookies! Although the weather was chilly overnight, it was very nice camping weather.

    February - @Saddletramp is leading a run over President's Day Weekend Presidents' Day long weekend adventure doing Mohave Road. The trail takes off from CO river and goes about 140 miles across the desert. The trail will be nothing difficult, should be stock friendly. It's an overlanding adventure over a long dirt road, being in the wilderness for several days. Once we hit dirt, there will be 3 nights of camping. Everyone needs to think about fuel, water, food, etc. This run should be a great amount of fun and a good opportunity to learn things. Anyone who can’t get off on Friday should be able to catch up with the group camping on the other side of the Colorado river Friday night; there will be at least one water crossing but right now it’s pretty low. Details for those who want to catch up with the group Friday night or Saturday morning will be posted on the thread.

    Also over President's Day Weekend @yjeff is leading a group to Mexico to Rocky Point. Rocky Point Presidents Day Invitation - Feb, 2018 Anyone is welcome, there are campgrounds but you should make a reservation otherwise you won’t have anywhere to camp, if you stay at a hotel you should make a reservation soon too; the group will be doing driving on the beach etc. See the thread for details on how to prepare, what type of identification and insurance is required, etc.

    March - @yjeff will be leading a TBD trail in March; @D_Web may also put something together this month further down near Tucson.

    April - @Chrismanjs will lead April, details TBD.

    May - @D1EZEL will be leading May, details TBD.

    Goals for 2018

    Community Service - @LandCruiserPhil suggested that CSC makes an effort to become more involved with community service this year. Maybe if people can bring a can of food, old clothes etc each time we go to a meeting we can donate to a Veterans organization or something. We are looking for someone who could be responsible for heading up this effort.

    Adopt a trail? - @LongDuck has done a lot of research on this matter and could share more info at a later time since he’s not here; we were thinking about adopting the back way to Mt. Ord at one point and someone was going to make a sign for that; apparently we are not supposed to do anything official to the trails so if we do it we are kind of doing it on our own without anyone’s approval, so we should talk to Thomas more about that; there’s also a liability worry if we put our name on it, so we need to do more research on that.

    FYI @Rudster has a lot of long-sleeved shirts available since it’s colder weather now, so see him if you need to buy any new CSC gear!
