So it looks like at 150k my front axles either need the bearings repacked or replaced, the Lexus dealer wants $500+ for the repack, any suggestions on independent shops in the area that are familiar with the beasts?

This on the 470 in your sig or another rig?

You could try LexPro in Murfreesboro.

To add to the above, I have recently found that CS Automotive over in Brentwood is a Toyota and Lexus Specialist shop. I have Zero experience with them other than they coordinated a Cruiser section at the cruisers and Coffee in Franklin this past Saturday.

@Jacob Auernheimer I believe is tied to the shop and might be able to offer some insight.

Not sure how far you would be interested in traveling, buy Barry @DIXIESLEDPULLER has a shop down towards Columbia that has done work for several STLCA members.

If it was an 80, then I'd say we could tear it down one Saturday, but never been into one of the hundy platform front-ends before so can't say that we could get it back together in one sitting (I AM confident that we could get it apart, just not so sure about the back together)

Thanks guys, I will check into these shops. From reading up it is pretty straight forward with the proper tools and a little know-how.

Yep! My father owns CS Automotive in Brentwood. My dad is a Toyota and Lexus Mastertech and we have ASE Certified Techs. # Year/36,000 mile warranty on all of our work, and we use only the best parts. If we didn't, we wouldn't offer the warranty. If you want to check out the reviews, we do not advertise that much, but let our customers do the advertising for us.

A good friend of mine called your dads shop about getting her FJ40 hubs worked on...he said they don't work on old rigs there and gave her an e-mail address...its been a few days and she hasn't heard back. Any other leads?

Hmm... My dad is going out of town today but his email has been messed up which might explain the problem with the no response. I'll figure it out and get back to you.

My friend is still lookin' for a good shop who is knowledgable to party with rebuilding some FJ40 hubs / knuckles and other small maintenance stuff in the Nashville-ish area.

Any leads? Might have to be a trip to ACC in Atlanta?

Barry at TLC Automotive in Columbia just finished a front end service on mine (and a few other things).

As a stop-gap you could (and probably should regardless) pump some moly grease into the square plug holes on top of the knuckles..

Tone, no square plug on 100 series, I had the bearings replaced by Fifth Gear last week
Ah, missed that in the post above. Glad you got it worked out.

Hi, I was looking for a mechanic in the Nashville area. I found this thread and brought my LX470 to Barry. I had a lot I needed done to it but I'm not very mechanically inclined. Below is the estimate and it was a big number. I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate thread to ask this or not but, I was hoping someone could cross check the pricing on the different jobs to make sure I wasn't getting taken advantage of or tell me what thread to repost this on to get my question answered?

$2150 - Timing belt with water pump, idlers and fan bracket with new belts - price includes parts and labor
$2750 - Front roters, front pads, all bearings and seals with new flangers and 2 new axles
$1144.25 Canister assembly installed
$249.99 Spark Plugs
$300.00 Diffs and Transfer Case
$99.00 efi injection svc

$6,693.24 Total
