There may have been some dragging involved. Thank you to my spotters, and to Justin for the extra winch pull, and to Jason @ Cruisin Off Road - Armour for Land Cruisers for 1. Winch bumper, 2. Skid Plate, 3. Rear bumper, and most importantly for this trick: 4. Both sliders. All were used during the production of this stunt

Not necessarily... probably can replace the components, but there just won't be a "rebuild kit" made for it. I am considering replacing it with a M12,000 - Jason says it should fit (with modifications for the bolt pattern and fairlead of course)

Yeah, there probably is, just might take some figgering, but someones likely already done the legwork if you can find the thread. Those seem like pretty good winches. Some conventional parts probably cross over.

But I was also referring to the icemaker and espresso machine, now with their aging plastic parts closing in on the 20 year old mark....now those ones will be fun to find too...

Winches are pretty simple...rebuilding them isnt rocket science take it apart slowly and take pictures of the way things go togethef if you will be doing it a little bit at a time

Just trying to think here in the a.m.....

Get the winch all loaded up, hook it to your neighbours house or something and make sure its getting enough voltage and amperage.

I doubt that thing is worn out but its likely that the wiring is tired. Give it a rewire and a good clean up before you go ordering a bunch of parts.

An m12000 will be heavy and a bit overkill. It will however never need a snatch block pulling your truck around!

My .02

I'd start by pulling apart the motor and rebuilding it... its an evening job and quite possibly you won't even need new parts if you clean things up a little... if you need brushes or anything you could try national starter in the states... i've had good luck with them...

I was going to ask Andrew, did you ever rebuild your old dead locker motor?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I think I will take it apart and poke around a bit. The hardest part will be removing it from the bumper, I have to remove the bumper from the truck first.

Cam - neighbour's house idea is awesome. Totally a good idea!

Stephen - Yes, Cam and I rebuilt it the first and second times, then I rebuilt it the 3rd. It's been fine since, but I have learned to a) re-seal with sealant as the factory rubber seal is toast after 20 years, and b) extend the breather tube somewhere high. I believe the tube was severed somewhere in the factory wiring. Also, the wiring to the motor along the back of the rear cross member at the connection point was totally rotted and needed replacing.

Yes, the one we originally attempted to rebuild was so far gone a motor rebuild shop couldn't even do it. The wiring was completely rusted and had forced itself apart - opening it looked like looking into a museum. Then the 2nd motor, the one I bought used from MUD here, worked fine until I went through some water and the 20 year old seals gave up. Hence the 2nd rebuild. Then the 3rd rebuild was because of the broken breather hose (which I then fixed and extended). The 4th time before I actually removed the motor, we found the wiring along the back cross member was toast.

Lesson: If your **** doesn't come with factory lockers, get air or even better cable
