I can't quit looking at the picture of the lights !!!! I definitely want to look into a round eye conversion for my 80 :)

At first glance it looks a bit like an FJ Cruiser, I like it too!

The round eyes are different, eh? You're only seeing it head-on tho. I'm sure you could if you wanted to.

Here she is with the Hi-Lift off. And yes, I got it. I ordered it the night I got home with the bumper... added another 35lbs to the front end of my sagging suspension!

Put the jacking mechanism in the back of the truck to keep the funk out of it and just put the bar to the jack on bumper. That will help out on weight. That's what I did .

Good suggestion. I was thinking about that the other night, but I just threw it on there out of the box to see how it'd go. Flopped it around a coupla ways, wasn't really happy with how it lined up.

That would probably also help with a theft deterrent if it wasn't all together ... I'd hate if someone ripped it off the front.

As for the weight, the 2.5" TJM lift will help with that as well :D

Great looking rig I'm in Orlando and have had my fj40 for 2 weeks now. where do you go to off road?

See this post - but if you're looking to go out, just PM me and I'll keep in touch when we do go out. I try and get out at least once a month, and I have some new places in mind that I haven't hit yet.

Shot of the nice job 40TUDE did on these sliders - nice protection for the cats. I'll edit this post later and add in the A/C drier protection as well the bumper has built in.

Here's a couple of pictures of the drier protection:

As far as the hi lift goes. When building the bumper, my plan was to carry the jacking mechanism and base inside the truck and leave the main shaft and handle on the bumper.

Futzed around with a couple of things tonight, got the solenoid situated.

For those who are joining early/late and didn't notice, I'm keeping my to-do list on post #1 for reference.

Updated pics for the drier protection on the bumper.

40TUDE, thanks for the comments... but after looking at my Hi-Lift, I don't think it's going to work for me. My jacking mechanism is friggin' huge. It's a Hi-Lift "extreme". Dunno what difference it has from the non-extreme aside from a pure steel shaft.

I also worked on the lights, wired them up, put in some fuses, ran the switch and... NOTHING! #@()*&%@#(&* Harbor Freight crap! Now I gotta go back. I guess I shouldn't expect much for $17... heh.

I also installed a battery tender I bought. It mounts up alongside the battery:

Sometimes my rig will sit for a couple of weeks without use, and my battery started showing low voltage - these things are much happier if you can keep them charged up.

A quick shot of the cleaned up mess of the solenoid and my winch cable back in again:

Does that mean you want to sell or trade your hi-lift for a regular one ?

Um... depends on what you want to pay :)

I only paid $120 for mine. The 'regular' 60" was $67. But I figured if I'm ever in a situation where I really need it, I'm gonna be pissed if $60 got in the way of a recovery.

I also got the base for it as well. I'm hoping I'll get to use it at GSMTR, but not on purpose!

Just seeing if you wanted to part with it or not! I'm just tire kicking anyways :)

I am leaning the same way and almost ordered a 60" Extreme last night on Amazon. I figure it's only a bit more than the 48", and not a lot more than the next model down. In a pinch those dollars are gonna be useless compared to a more capable lift. If you know somewhere locally that has them let me know.

More work today...

Started off putting the castor correction bushings in, prepping for the TJM lift that should be here Monday. That was a bit of a chore - I'd never done it before, but read a lot and saw a few videos of folks doing it. That was a smart move - I went to my boss' house since he had a press and doesn't live far from me. So I dropped the control arms (wtf is with the cats being right in the way of the rear bolt on the passenger control arm?)

Got the arms out finally, and thanks to CruiserCliff I had a bushing press tool.

Tried to press 'em out... and nothing. Couldn't do it. This was a 15T press.

Fortunately I'd watched a video where a guy took a sawzall to 'em and cut them so he could knock 'em out. So we pressed out the center "pins" on the bushings and I cut 'em down.

Here's a pic after I cut them out:

So that worked like a charm. Then it was just a matter of lining up the new ones, giving them a quick tap and then pressing them into place.

Getting them back in was a little challenge - some people said you should rock the front end around until you can get the bolts back in. I found that was futile, so I took some straps and cinched down until they lined up, and slid the bolts in. No big deal.

After I got home, I decided this was as good of a time as any to takle the 1" body lift kit that'd been staring at me since Feb. What a pain in the ass that turned out to be.... and mostly because I didn't find some more informative posts on MUD before I started in on it. Sometimes the content on here is incredible - other times there's so much it's hard to filter it out and end up with a good result.

Anyway, I'll post more details on the body lift later. For now, here's a couple of before-and-after shots:

Well, I posted the results of my education on a 1" lift over here:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/589776-definitive-1-body-lift-how.html

What a chore that was. Probably 6 hours yesterday, and another 6 today. Mostly because I did things wrong, however... could have been a 4 hour job if I hadn't raised the body BEFORE loosening up the fan shroud... that cause the fan to bind, which meant I couldn't get the shrowd free without taking the fan off!

So I took off the fan, took out the shroud, and got to work. I figured while I was there I'd add some of that foam crap along the outside of the fan shrowd:

You can also see how much clearance I gained over my winch solenoid:

IMG_2427.jpg

And oh yeah, I also deleted my hitch. Damn thing is nothing more than a clearance killer anyway. I'm getting a pentile hitch, probably this one from Northern Tool:

Buyers 15-Ton Capacity Steel Pintle Hook | Towing Hooks | Northern Tool + Equipment

That'll serve as my recovery point. I don't tow much at all... I guess if I ever really did have to I could always remount the hitch. But it's off for GSMTR at least.

Tried to remove the bumper flares too, but two of the bolts are pretty much completely rusted and aren't coming off without more help. I was hot & tired so I didn't care enough to dig into them.

That was a long weekend, for sure...
