Cruise Moab 2013

On the way is SOB hill. It is a rough climb, which is really no problem but at the top you have to make a tight right turn, where there are lots of 2' rocks and then through the SOB squeeze. Jim is in the blue shirt is the gatekeeper.
The entertainment was getting the FJ rental through without damage - last picture..

We got it through - lots of stacked rocks - and then out through the squeeze ...

Looks like a bout the best out come possible with a knock. Any idea why it let go? Thats not a common failure.

My Wife and I are really trying to get our ducks in a row for March Moab ( canadian spring break).

Not a common failure at all from what I understand. I think I know why it let go...great campfire story. Suffice to say it was likely a **** of my own doing, which was caught, corrected...and may now have shown itself a few years later.

Or maybe it was just random...there was a newer 4runner in the shop same time as my 80, and it had a FP torn out as well. I think the finger is more pointed at me though.

I spun the FP with a screwdriver in the rest stop when it was turned off, and checked all the TC to FP bolts. Then did the old screwdriver in the ear stethoscope (which had the loudest knock/noise coming from the oil pan/rear engine area) in the rest stop while checking the undercarriage with it running. What I didn't do was look up the access hole in the bellhousing when it was running. That would have likely narrowed it down right away; Props to TOR in Seattle for the quick diagnosis.

You literally ripped apart the flywheel and you think it might have been something you did? Oh I really want to be at the same campfire to hear this story.
That is a very rare failure. Upgrading to a manual so it doesn't happen again?

way to Moab

On Tuesday we left Blanding and took Hwy 211 and the Lockhart Basin Trail. The plan was to get to Moab for Wednesday Day 1 of Cruise Moab.

Along the way we had minor heep grief - crushed valve stem, which everyone though required a tire changeout - but Kevin magically fixed it and we were on a our way ...

tricky off camber for 80's and FJ- easy for the 70
