You need the transponder/chip programmed for your new key. When you put it in the ignition does the red blinking light quit blinking? So, I bought a pair of those generic key fobs off Amazon and am having problems. Got them cut. Followed the programming instructions and it works windows, locks fine. Truck turns over but won't start?
I have an original key and remote that work fine. That thread was informative but I didn't see anything about programming a transponder. I thought I was programming it by following vids on youtube, which did activate the locks/windows.May help. Also try an original key to start so you know the new key is the issue.
Just picked up a 2006 LX470. Enjoying it so far. This seems like a great forum and looking forward to learning from you all...
Question on the best steps...
All I got was a gray valet key and a remote (key broke off) -- see pic. I would like to add additional remotes/keys. I think the issue is I have no master key. What is the best way to go about this without losing an arm and a leg? Should I get a shell/blank key and get the key cut and swap over the chip/buttons? I assume the broken remove still has the transponder so I can program? I can get the key cut using the valet key...

No, it is year-dependent. The earlier series are fully DIY.If I am not mistaken you need Techstream or an advanced scan tool to program keys.
“Programming” is actually a 2-part process. So, I bought a pair of those generic key fobs off Amazon and am having problems. Got them cut. Followed the programming instructions and it works windows, locks fine. Truck turns over but won't start?

1) the transmitter. This is the “clicker” part of the fob that unlocks the doors, sets off the alarm, etc.
2) the RFID chip. This handshakes with the ignition to allow the vehicle to start. Part of the anti-theft system.
Both of these, plus the physical cut, have to be done for the new key to be fully functional.
You did not say what year you have, so it’s hard to guarantee that you can DIY this, but the earlier model years are definitely DIY programmable.
FAQ has programming instructions with confirmed results up to MY 2006.No, it is year-dependent. The earlier series are fully DIY.
Yes, I have a 99 and can confirm this is a DIY job, provided you start with a master key (not a valet key).I really appreciate your help with this. It's a 1999 LC. Sounds like I need to program the RFID?
Thank you Super 77. I have been using the valet key and a good factory remote. New key on right. Did the insert and remove key, operate locks, etc. and got the windows/locks working. I don't see any lights on the dash. I just assumed it was the valet key because it isn't connected to a remote fob. The fob with broken off key does work. Suppose I need a locksmith. Are you sure that's a valet key? Again, does the security light on the dash turn off or blink when you insert it? If all you have is a valet key you will not be able to program a new key that will start the truck. You'll need to call a locksmith that has the tools to program the ECU, the dealership doesn't do that any longer.

Doesn't flash with factory key but keeps flashing with new key.Next to the clock is a blinking security light, your answer to valet or master is whether that light turns off or not when you put the key in.
To clarify, does the security light stop flashing IMMEDIATELY after you insert the old key (master), or does it flash a second or two and then go off (valet).Doesn't flash with factory key but keeps flashing with new key.
