i probably should have done this sooner, but hey, whatever. i have an 87 runner with stock ifs, and with really bad alignment on one side, and being the poor white boy i am, would like to do some kind of fixing on my front end... anyway, my issue is that my drivers side front wheel. the top of it points inward on the top... should i attempt to do some kind of fix myself, or am i better off taking it somewhere?

most places will look at it for free and least let you know what it probably needs...

except reading your post...can you even adjust the camber on these trucks? I could be wrong but I think you can only adjust toe...you may have something bent if it thats obvious that you have negative camber...

EDIT: asked our alignment tech...there are camber bolts on the bottom control arm, theyre usually very stuck and hard to move. if you plan on doing it yourself start spraying them with pb blaster now! or call toyota and get new ones and just take out your old ones.

as far as aligning it get things to where they start to move get a tape measure and start measuring from random points thatd be the same left to right from the center of the tread to the fender well should be pretty close L to R make sure you dont have the tires off the ground while you this as it will change the alignment once you drop it back down...babble blah blah blah...

'EDIT #2: toe eats tires a lot MORE than camber....

i do believe you can, an old friend of mine, who i dont talk to anymore, adjusted it a little bit for me, because it was alot worse than it is now. since looking at it, i think i will just take it somewhere, but my real only issue is with my modified from the PO did

First jack up your tire and make sure your wheel bearings are tight. If they are and the tire is leaning in at the top as you say, I'd just bit the bullet and take it to someone... you probably don't want to fight with the 20 year old bolts holding the A arms in place...

It's IFS, there are no knuckles.

Actually...

yeah they do. Even Toyota calls the big cast part where the spindle is attached as the "knuckle". The part with the ball joints top and bottom.
Knuckle.webp

if it was a solid axle id say do it yourself...but since its IFS, take it somewhere. And if its going to be wheeled....take it to Firestone and get the lifetime allignment!!!! You will need it often

Do a serch for alignment either here or on yotatech in the 79-85 section. There is a DIY thread on home alignment.

I tried but got stuck on the big cam-nuts. Two of the four would loosen, but the other two were beyond me. It was $100 at the local tire shop. Money well spent. I do the alignment on my 45 though. Easy.

i did replace my knuckles/spindles earlier in the year, and before both my tires were bad, left side was pointing in, still is, right side was pointing out, after i replaced the knuckles the right side is now pretty straight... i think after reading that i can run into a snag, i think i will just spend the money and get one done... im just worried they wont like my modified frame...

Well my guess is theyll still try to make the alignment correct for the truck as is, even though that isnt factory correct. So if you ever get a new frame, itll just have to be re-aligned.
