This s*** is serious.

See, the problem here is perception. I'm going to have to cut your vehicle out of all the pictures.....can you at least put a high-lift on it somewhere? The RTT would normally give you all the cred needed but it's on sideways. Someone will think you are hauling it home from a garage sale......

That's the only way it would work on the factory rack. Plus its much more aerodynamic oriented this way.

In prep for the big bend trip, I worked up a dedicated deep cycle battery (with constant +12v) for the fridge.

To eliminate the brain damage of moving stuff around under the hood (or buying a slee kit), I just mounted it to my homemade fridge carrier right behind the fridge.

I connected the aux battery to the starter using about 15 foot of 4 gauge. This way it will receive a charge off the start battery

This voltage sensitive relay combines the batteries for charging. However, when either battery goes to 12 volts, it disconnects and the fridge will only draw from the deep cycle which can run the fridge with pretty low voltage. With as much driving as we are doing, it should get a healthy charge during the day and then won't kill my start battery when running all night.

Now, time to start packing up

Looks like you secured it pretty good... whatever you do, don't let that battery turn over on it's side

Nope, I'll just stick to my Wrangler Riggs work pants and circa 1980's Herman Survivor boots.
I like ya style son! Screw all that high dollar gear!

FYI- there are batteries suitable for use inside the passenger compartment (vented to the outside) and those that are not. Batteries put off poisonous gasses when charging. You may want to consider a sealed battery box that has a vent tube to the outside. :(

Thanks for heads up @Bossman; I have already cut the pieces to seal the battery box. Just haven't screwed them in yet. Wanted to monitor everything for a couple of days before putting it in its coffin. I can vent it through one of the holes in the floor. There are lots of folks running similar set ups on mud. I'll also open the back vented Windows too. Thanks!

Bossman beat me to it. Even in a sealed battery box a conventional battery will vent thus filling the now sealed battery box with poison gas. On the Redneck scale that install is 4.5 talking Billy bass on the safety scale you don't get the package the safty glasses come in.

There are sealed battery boxes available from folks like Summit Racing that are gasket sealed and provide a vent tube to the outside. Seriously, look into one. Love ya man.
