Cottonland Moab Trip

Fluids, WATER, u-joints, birfield, grease, CO2 or air, belts/hoses, etc. I'll probably bring a spare drag link with ends just because of the GSMTR mess and a spare rear driveshaft as well. Think brakes, coolig system, steering, and recovery gear. If we need anything more serious than that we can just send someone back to town. On board air compressors and CO2 tanks will get a workout if you air down each morning and want to air back up before hitting the hard top each afternoon. I know my CO2 tank ran out after 3-4 days last trip and the guys with the York units were very popular.

I sure hope no one breaks anything. This place is not like Superlift where you can hammer your junk and just tow it to camp and fix it. I saw very little breakage with all the D44's and big tires during Easter Jeep.

The main thing that I see break in Moab is rear axles, rear ring and pinions and rear driveshafts.

The "Moab Bump" is somewhat of an art that you will pick up quickly. Problem is, before you get the feel, you may over do it or stay in the gas when you under-do it and land back on the rear shaft with all the weight on it.

I will be wheeling with the rear locker engaged mostly and when I can't get up something, I will use the front locker. I am really, really, really hoping for a break free trip.

Parts I have that I was planning on bringing were mostly mechanical.

Spare belts and fuel filter.

I have a front driveshaft minus the slip yoke I am going to pack in the trailer.

If I break mine bad I will rent a RZR or a Jeep and keep going or just go home, depending on the day.

The way I used to carry spare shafts (inners and drive) on my buggies on long trips away from the trailer is to hose clamp them to the frame. I would leave them on the trailer myself.

By gawd you guys are demanding.

The HG repair has been a challenge/fiasco just keeping the 80 Cool

The Head gasket has been changed already, mostly a full regasket to the engine.
ALso a new radiator and hoses.
had to changed an injector
replace wires, distributor cap, rotor fuel filter.

I have not had a chance to change much on the differentials, which I have been maintaining since I bought the trucks.

At this point the repairs funds are going low!

I still have pending brakes and need to put some grease on Birfs!

getting close!

How many Cottonlanders does it take.....

What is going on with the diffs?

Brakes, brakes, brakes.....without good ones or manual gears for compression braking you will die in Moab.

Diffs. are ok! ...but wanted to do some maintenance on my Birfs. mostly grease'em up.

Brakes: They work fine but the light is coming on.
I changed the master cylinder a earlier this year and the brake ligths are on.
I can't do much until they put back the engine together, since right now it's all apart.

I received the fuel injector, but somehow I got the wrong one, will solve that today!

in the spare parts, I don't have much, OK, None!:hillbilly:

but my 285's are small and I don't think I will put too much stress on them! (lockers on... Daryl)

Good reminder on the Air tank
I got an air Tank ,but good point, Prolly will run out of air.
I will fix my cheap ass fix a flat air generator deally(compressor) and buy an alternate air thank to fill up and carry, now the challeng is to make it fit in the truck!

Tell you wife you can go to Disney World any time, but you can't go to Moab with a great bunch of gals and guys from the Cottonland club any time. Not a fair comparison imho.

I thought Mexicans looked up to a different mouse, Speedy Gonzalez.

Agree! I'll admit I am jealous and wish I could go on this trip :) I wish you guys a great time and most of all, safe travels! Please keep us non-Moab goers in mind and update this thread and/or Facebook :) with pics and dialogue, if you get time.

Cheers!

Don't know if I missed it before now but I just heard from our benefactor, Woody, that he plans to join us for a few days in Moab! This is a trip not to be missed!

Maybe we will finally get to meet his better half!!

So glad to hear Den Mom Debs 80 is back on the roster! Woody in Moab?! Sweet!

Picked the GunRunner up from Myron today after a "top half" carb rebuild. I lost count of all the issues it had and Myron was surprised it ran at all. On the way home I discovered the hard way that the gas tank sending unit was stuck reading 1/2 a tank. Myron bailed me out again and after a complete fill-up the gauge unstuck and is reading full. It ran pretty darn good. May need to adjust the timing a little, but it should run MUCH better. Ethanol laced gas and sitting for too long without any stabilizer are doing a number on my old 40.

I've got lots to check off the to-do list this weekend to be ready to go Friday.

7 DAYS!!!!!!
