Looking for some recommendations for a sight for my Glock 17 gen 4. Here's the issue: bifocals. I can't see up close without the bifocals, but then I can't see the target at a distance. If I look at the target, I can't see the sights well enough to line them up. I mean, I'm not WAY mis-aiming either way, but still. So the instructor at the range is working with me to figure this out and he suggested brighter (i.e. not stock) sights so that it's a bit more obvious for my blind eyes. And suggestions on good, bright sights?

You'll never have perfect focus on the front sight and the target, one or the other will be blurry/doubled, due to convergence and accommodation. Have you tried taping your non dominant eye to see if that allows you to see the sights better? Just saying that it might not be an issue with glasses..

If it is truly an issue with the glasses, I know nothing about shooting with bifocals. But know lots of folks do it. A lot of guys I shoot with have glasses made with two different scripts one for seeing the sights in one eye, the other for seeing the target with the other. This works for some and causes massive headaches for others.

The sights that are easiest for me to see have contrast. i/e a fiber optic front and a plain black rear. You can check dawson precision or warren tactical as both make great sights for glocks.

Alternatively, the simplest (not cheapest) solution would be to have your slide milled for an RMR and then you can shoot everything with a target focus and not worry about shifting focal points.

Even if even if you have 20/20, you still have to train your eyes to see the target over the sights. Get some hi-visibility sights if necessary, but...

I wear progressive bifocals (no line) and my focal range starts at the barrel and quickly to goes to target. I've tried doing the both eyes open thing as WNG described and depending on lighting conditions sometimes it works for me and other times I close the non-sighting eye.

Guns are very dangerous. We should leave using guns to the police. Guns scare me. Bad.

"The tank, the B-52, the fighter-bomber, the state-controlled police and military are the weapons of dictatorship. The rifle is the weapon of democracy. Not for nothing was the revolver called an "equalizer." Egalite implies liberte. And always will. Let us hope our weapons are never needed — but do not forget what the common people of this nation knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny."

Edward Abbey.

That said, we might be too lazy/comfortable now to actually go through or believe in the above.

As I recall, you had your panties halfway down already at the thought of getting to shoot my retard...

In order to gain balance on the whole East/West firearms thingy, I broke down and got a CMP M1 Garand recently. Just seemed patriotic and whatnot.

We could have our own little CLC army! I'd hate to know how many rounds we have among us! lol

I had a garage catch fire in Shreveport when I was a competitive shotgun shooter. About 5000 rounds cooked off. We were out of town. It was detached. The just let it burn
They are really to bad in a fire. They tend to go off individually and the case beomces the projectile because the bullet is heaver. Energy dissapates fast. The first one you go into with them cooking off is weird as hell.
